''Soulsinger: The Revival'' is a re-release of the debut album by the American singer-songwriter Ledisi, released independently as ''Soulsinger'' in 2000 by Ledisi's label, LeSun Records. The album was later distributed by Tommy Boy Records. It was nominated for a Bammie, for best R&B album. Production ''Soulsinger: The Revival'' was written and produced by Ledisi and Sundra Manning. Critical reception AllMusic wrote that "cool jazzy flavors (including the catchy 'I Wantcha Babe') and sweet floaters ('Take Time' and 'In My Life') balance the more dramatic cuts and provide a comfortable plateau for Ledisi's fluid alto." Ledisi Anibade Young (; born March 28, 1972), better known simply as Ledisi, is an American R&B and jazz recording artist, songwriter, music producer, author and actress. Michelle Lynn Johnson, better known as Meshell Ndegeocello (; born August 29, 1968), is a German-born American singer-songwriter, rapper, and bassist. She has gone by the name Meshell Suhaila Bashir-Shakur which is used as a writing credit on some of her later work. Her music incorporates a wide variety of influences, including funk, soul, jazz, hip hop, reggae and rock. She has received significant critical acclaim throughout her career, being nominated for eleven Grammy Awards, and winning one. She also has been credited for helping to "spark the neo-soul movement". Contemporary R&B (or simply R&B) is a popular music genre that combines rhythm and blues with elements of pop, soul, funk, hip hop, and electronic music.
