Soulside Journey
''Soulside Journey'' is the first studio album by Norwegian black metal band Darkthrone. It was released 13 January 1991 by Peaceville Records. It is notable as the band's only death metal album, before they became an integral part of the Norwegian black metal scene. Background The band's drummer, Fenriz, used the nickname "Hank Amarillo". Being that they had finally made it "big" and released an album, and due to his negativity toward the then-crop of death metal bands, Fenriz thought it would be appropriate to mockingly choose a "Western" name. Later pressings of the albums listed all of the band's pseudonyms rather than their real names. Reissue The album was remastered and reissued by Peaceville in 2003, as well as being repackaged in a cardboard digipak. The first chapter of a four-part video interview with Fenriz and Nocturno Culto, spanning the first four albums, was also included as bonus material. Darkthrone is a Norwegian extreme metal band from Kolbotn, Akershus. Formed in 1986 as a death metal band named Black Death, in 1991 Darkthrone embraced a black metal style influenced by Bathory and Celtic Frost and became one of the leading bands in the Norwegian black metal scene. Their first three black metal albums—''A Blaze in the Northern Sky'' (1992), ''Under a Funeral Moon'' (1993) and ''Transilvanian Hunger'' (1994)—are sometimes dubbed the "Unholy Trinity". They are considered the peak of the band's career and to be among the most influential albums in black metal. Darkthrone has been a duo of Fenriz and Nocturno Culto since guitarist Zephyrous left the band in 1993. They have sought to remain outside the music mainstream. Nocturno Culto
Ted Skjellum (born 4 March 1972), also known by the stage name Nocturno Culto, is a Norwegian musician best known as the vocalist, lead guitarist, and partial bassist (shared with Fenriz) of the influential black metal band Darkthrone. He has been with the band since 1988. He is also the vocalist of the band Sarke, and has a solo project called Gift of Gods. He currently works in Norway as a school teacher, and has a son and a daughter. He has also released a documentary film called ''The Misanthrope'' in which he deals with black metal music and life in Norway. Bass Guitar
The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. It is a plucked string instrument similar in appearance and construction to an electric or an acoustic guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and typically four to six strings or courses. Rhythm Guitar
In music performances, rhythm guitar is a technique and role that performs a combination of two functions: to provide all or part of the rhythmic pulse in conjunction with other instruments from the rhythm section (e.g., drum kit, bass guitar); and to provide all or part of the harmony, i.e. the chords from a song's chord progression, where a chord is a group of notes played together. Therefore, the basic technique of rhythm guitar is to hold down a series of chords with the fretting hand while strumming or fingerpicking rhythmically with the other hand. Zephyrous
Ivar Enger (born 1973), also known as "Zephyrous", is a Norwegian guitarist who played for the black metal band Darkthrone. He is credited as featuring on the band's first three albums; ''Soulside Journey'', ''A Blaze in the Northern Sky'' and ''Under a Funeral Moon'', as well as the '' Goatlord'' album; the rehearsal tapes of what was originally intended to be their second album (with later added vocals). He is said to have left due to delving into misanthropy, instead of generally leaving, as Darkthrone never had touring stress and he didn't leave prior because of the swift change from death metal to black metal, like other former member Dag Nilsen did. The band maintains that Zephyrous went into a forest and never returned. Cappadocia or Capadocia (; tr, Kapadokya), is a historical region in Central Anatolia, Turkey. It largely is in the provinces Nevşehir, Kayseri, Aksaray, Kırşehir, Sivas and Niğde. Cromlech
A cromlech (sometimes also spelled "cromleh" or "cromlêh"; cf Welsh ''crom'', "bent"; ''llech'', "slate") is a megalithic construction made of large stone blocks. The word applies to two different megalithic forms in English, the first being an altar tomb (frequently called a "dolmen"), as William Borlase first denoted in 1769. A good example is at Carn Llechart. The second meaning of the name "cromlech" in English refers to large stone circles such as those found among the Carnac stones in Brittany, France.
