''Souls of Black'' is the fourth studio album by American thrash metal band Testament. It was released on October 9, 1990. Production and musical style While ''Souls of Black'' saw Testament staying true to their thrash sound, it saw several changes in style to rather diverse styles of metal, continuing the melding of technical and progressive influences that began on its predecessor ''Practice What You Preach'', and preceding the traditional heavy metal sound heard in its subsequent album, '' The Ritual''. The songs on the album are musically re-worked and lyrically re-written songs that had been demoed in the late 1980s, but never officially released. ''Souls of Black'' sees Testament continuing in a vein similar to that of ''Practice What You Preach'', with its lyrics dealing with society, politics, religion, suicide, megalomania and warfare. Testament (band)
Testament is an American Thrash metal, thrash metal band from Berkeley, California. Formed in 1983 under the name Legacy, the band's current lineup comprises rhythm guitarist Eric Peterson (musician), Eric Peterson, lead vocalist Chuck Billy (vocalist), Chuck Billy, lead guitarist Alex Skolnick, bassist Steve Di Giorgio and drummer Dave Lombardo. Testament has experienced many lineup changes over the years, with Peterson being the only remaining original member, though they have since been rejoined by one of its songwriters Skolnick, who had been out of the band from 1992 to 2005. Billy has been a member of Testament since 1986, when he replaced original singer Steve Souza, Steve "Zetro" Souza, who had joined Exodus (American band), Exodus as the replacement of Paul Baloff. Clash of the Titans was a concert tour co-headlined by American thrash metal bands Megadeth and Slayer, which took place in September and October 1990 and again from May to July 1991. Launched in support of their respective albums ''Rust in Peace'' and ''Seasons in the Abyss'', the tour had two legs, first in Europe (supported by Testament and Suicidal Tendencies) and second in the United States (tri-headlined by Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax and supported by Alice in Chains). The Painkiller Tour was a concert tour by English heavy metal band Judas Priest which was in support of the album ''Painkiller''. It ran from 18 October 1990 until 15 April 1991. This tour introduced new drummer Scott Travis from Racer X, who joined the band in 1989 after previous drummer Dave Holland's departure that same year. He has remained with the band ever since, surpassing Holland as the band's longest serving drummer. Pre-tour A one-off pre-tour show took place on 13 September 1990 in which the band performed at the third annual Foundations Forum in Los Angeles. It was the last Judas Priest album to feature long-time lead singer Rob Halford until his return for the 2005 album ''Angel of Retribution'' and the first to feature drummer Scott Travis. Eric Peterson (musician)
Eric Stanley Peterson (born May 14, 1964) is an American musician, best known as the rhythm guitarist of the American thrash metal band Testament and is the only remaining original member left in the band, which first started in 1983 under the name Legacy. He and lead vocalist Chuck Billy are the only members to appear on all of the band's studio albums. Peterson also has a side project black metal band called Dragonlord, in which he plays guitar and also sings. In Testament, Peterson was originally a rhythm guitarist while Alex Skolnick handled all lead work. More recently though, Peterson plays leads along with Skolnick.
