François Jacques "Francesc" Soulié (born 22 March 1978) is an Andorran cross-country skier who has competed since 1999. Competing in two Winter Olympics, he earned his best finish of 47th in the 50 km event at Vancouver in 2010. Soulié's best finish at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships was 51st in the team sprint at Sapporo in 2007. Gilbert Soulié, SS.CC., (born ''Antoine Soulié''; 1800 – 13 June 1863) was a French Catholic Catechist brother of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, a religious institute of the Roman Catholic Church. He was part of the Roman Catholic mission in the Gambier Islands from 1835 until his death in 1863 and with Brother Fabien Costes trained the natives workers and masons in the construction of many of the island's impressive buildings including St. Michael's Cathedral in Rikitea Rikitea is a small town on Mangareva, which is part of the Gambier Islands in French Polynesia. Jean-André Soulié (October 6, 1858 – December 11, 1905, known in Chinese sources as u Lie was a French Roman Catholic missionary sent to East Tibet of Qing China. He was killed in a 1905 anti-Catholic revolt. Biography Soulié was born in Saint-Juéry, Aveyron, on October 6, 1858. He was ordained July 5, 1885, for the Paris Foreign Missions Society and sent in October 1885 to the Apostolic Vicariate of Thibet (now Diocese of Kangding), administered by Mgr Félix Biet. His first mission was to Batang, then at Cha-pa (now Shaba, close to Kanding). He met with his colleagues the French expedition of Gabriel Bonvalot and Prince Henri of Orléans in June 1890 at Ta-tsien lu (now Kangding). In 1896, he was sent to the mission station of Tse-ku (close to now Yanmen) with Father Jules Dubernard. This village is situated on the right bank of the Lancang (upper Mekong) river. George Soulié de Morant, born 1878 in Paris, died 1955 in Paris, French scholar and diplomat. Soulié de Morant worked several years in the French diplomatic corps in China, where he served as French consul in several Chinese cities. He is mainly known for his role in introducing acupuncture in the West and for his translations of Chinese literature. Education and career Soulié de Morant had the opportunity to start learning Chinese at the age of eight, being taught the language by a Jesuit priest. Although he had originally intended to become a physician, he had to give up his plans when his father died. At the age of twenty, Soulié de Morant was employed by a bank, which decided to send him to China in 1899. Given Soulié de Morant's command of the Chinese language, he soon joined the French diplomatic corps, for which he would work for most of the following two decades. Jacques Soulie, a native of Toulouse, France, is the Director of the Alliance Francaise (French Cultural Centre) in Kandy, Central Sri Lanka. A psychiatrist by profession, Dr Soulie has been based in Sri Lanka for many years. He goes down in the history of Franco Sri Lanka Relations as an exemplary Frenchman who rendered enormous services to teaching French in Sri Lanka. He has been teaching French at the Alliance Francaise in Kandy for many years.
