Soulhead
Soulhead (known as SOULHEAD in Japan) is a Japanese urban contemporary/ R&B duo consisting of sisters Yoshika Sawayama (よしか) and Tsugumi Sawayama (つぐみ). Both were born in Hokkaidō; Yoshika was born on July 20, 1978 and Tsugumi was born on January 25, 1981. Since their debut, they have worked with several well-known artists, including Sowelu, Koda Kumi, Crystal Kay and Ken Hirai. Biography Before they assumed the name Soulhead, Yoshika and Tsugumi were known as Batti Baas. Batti Baas released one vinyl single through Handcuts Records called ''Lovin' You'', which featured Aaron Blackmon. The song was a remake of the Minnie Riperton standard. In February 2002, they released a CD single through Tokuma Japan Communications called '' Inside Out.'' ''Best of Soulhead'' is the first greatest hits album by Soulhead. It was their last album under the Sony Music Entertainment Japan sub-label onenation before moving to Avex. The album peaked at #5 on Oricon and remained on the charts for thirteen weeks. Information ''Best of Soulhead'' was released a year after their studio album, ''Naked (Soulhead album), Naked'', and was their last album under the SMEJ's sublabel onenation. The album was released in both CD and CD+DVD format, with the CD+DVD being of limited edition. It also received a special "Winter Sleeve" limited edition. ''Naked'' is the third album by female duo Soulhead and was their last studio album with Sony Music Entertainment Japan, whereas they moved to Avex afterwards. Their final album under SMEJ was a compilation album, '' Best of Soulhead.'' The album reached #5 on the Oricon Weekly charts, but dropped to #19 for the monthly ranking. It was also their first album to be released in both CD and CD+DVD format. A limited edition " analog version" was released three weeks later on March 24, 2006. "Step to the New World" (stylized as ''STEP TO THE NEW WORLD'') is female duo Soulhead's first single and third single in total (having released two singles under the name ''Batti Baas'': ''Lovin' You'' and '' Inside Out''). It was used to advertise Triumph's ''Tenshi no Bra'' (天使のブラ / Angel Bra). Information This was their first single under the name Soulhead. They had previously released two singles under the name Batti Baas, with ''Lovin' You'' under Handcut Records and ''Inside Out'' under the Tokuma label. Sony Music Entertainment Japan had signed the sisters in early 2002, then sent them to New Zealand and Australia to study and become proficient in English. Soul Music
Soul music is a popular music genre that originated in the African American community throughout the United States in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It has its roots in African-American gospel music and rhythm and blues. Contemporary R&B (or simply R&B) is a popular music genre that combines rhythm and blues with elements of pop, soul, funk, hip hop, and electronic music.
