Daniel Soulage
Daniel Soulage (14 February 1942 – 14 September 2020) was a French politician. Soulage was born in Monflanquin, Lot-et-Garonne, and served as deputy mayor of his hometown starting in 1978. He was elected to the mayoralty in 1983, retaining the office until 2008. Soulage was a member of the Senate of France from 2001 to 2011, representing Lot-et-Garonne department. Between 1993 and 1997, he served on the National Assembly from Lot-et-Garonne's 3rd constituency. While a deputy, Soulage was a member of the Union for French Democracy. Marcelle Soulage
Marcelle Fanny Henriette Soulage (12 December 1894 – 17 December 1970) (sometimes published under the name of Marc Sauval) was a French pianist, music critic and composer. Career Marcelle Soulage was born in Lima, Peru, to French parents. Her father was a mining engineer and had been appointed Professor of Mineralogical Chemistry in Lima. The family returned to Paris when Marcelle was four-and-a-half years old. She began piano lessons at the age of five, and subsequently entered the Conservatoire de Paris studying with Georges Caussade, Paul Vidal, Vincent d'Indy and Nadia Boulanger. Soulage served as professor of piano and harmony at the Conservatoire d'Orléans (1921–1925) and professor of solfege at the Conservatoire de Paris (1949–1965). Soulage composed orchestral works, chamber music and songs, sometimes writing under the pseudonym ''Marc Sauval''. Solage (; or Soulage), possibly Jean , was a French composer, and probably also a poet. He composed the most pieces in the Chantilly Codex, the principal source of music of the ''ars subtilior'', the manneristic compositional school centered on Avignon at the end of the century. Life Nothing is known about Solage's life, beyond what can be inferred from the texts to his music. Even his name is a puzzle. One possibility is that the single name "Solage" is a nickname or pseudonym, similar to others known from the period, such as Grimace or Hasprois. "Solage" and "soulage" are variant spellings of Old French ''solaz'', ''solace'', meaning "consolation", "joy", or "entertainment". In the refrain to the text of ''Calextone qui fut dame'', the composer refers to himself with such a double meaning, using the spelling "soulage".
