Soul Rush
''Soul Rush: The Odyssey of a Young Woman of the '70s'' is a 1978 autobiography written by Sophia Collier. The book describes the author's personal spiritual development, use of drugs and cultivating of Eastern spiritual practices. After going on a spiritual journey, Collier returned home to write the book in 1976, and sold it at the age of nineteen. The book was published by William Morrow & Co. Synopsis In the book, Collier describes her experiences with recreational drug use, including marijuana and LSD, and then her introduction to Eastern spirituality through life on an ashram. At age sixteen, Collier had become friends with Abbie Hoffman, then moved to live first on a commune and later a Divine Light Mission ashram. Sophia Collier
Sophia Collier is an American investor, artist, and entrepreneur. Biography In 1977, at 21, Sophia Collier developed Soho Natural Soda in her kitchen in Brooklyn, Brooklyn, New York and co-founded the American Natural Beverage Corp with Constance Best to distribute the product. Collier was among the first wave of young women establishing startups in the early 1980s and was recognized in the first "40 under 40" by Crane's New York Business. The company grew to $25 million in soft drink sales before the partners sold it to Seagram, Seagram Beverage Company in 1989 for a reported US$15 million. Divine Light Mission
The Divine Light Mission (''Divya Sandesh Parishad''; DLM) was an organization founded in 1960 by guru Hans Ji Maharaj for his following in northern India. During the 1970s, the DLM gained prominence in the West under the leadership of his fourth and youngest son (Prem Rawat). Some scholars noted the influence of the Bhagavad Gita and the Radha Soami tradition, a.k.a. Sant Mat movement, but the western movement was widely seen as a new religious movement, a cult, a charismatic religious sect or an alternative religion. DLM officials said the movement represented a church rather than a religion. When Shri Hans Ji Maharaj died in 1966, he was succeeded as guru by Prem Rawat, then just eight years old, despite rival claims from other family members.
