''Sorrow and Joy'' ( da, Sorg og glæde) is a 2013 Danish drama film directed by Nils Malmros. The autobiographical film recounts the tragic event in which Malmros' wife, suffering from bipolar disorder, killed their infant daughter with a knife. It was selected as the Danish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards, but was not nominated. Nils Malmros
Nils Malmros (born 1944), a Danish film director and screenwriter, is considered a leading auteur of realism in Danish cinema.Nissen, Dan, ''Malmros, Nils'', International Dictionary of Films and Filmmakers, Gale Group, (2001) retrieved 2 August 2008 Malmros is noted for his detailed focus on the common growing pains of adolescence and the loss of innocence, which he draws from his childhood experiences growing up in Århus, Denmark. This is a list of submissions to the 87th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of a number of countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. It is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length film produced outside the United States with primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process, reviewing all films submitted. For the 87th Academy Awards, held on 22 February 2015, a submitted motion picture must be released theatrically in its respective country between 1 October 2013 and 30 September 2014. Submission of a film does not automatically qualify it for the competition; AMPAS has the final word on eligibility, and has disqualified submissions in the past. John Mogensen
John Mogensen (May 5, 1928 – April 10, 1977) was a Danish singer, songwriter and pianist. Mogensen was a member of the vocal quartet Four Jacks from 1956-1963. While still a member of the group, he gained popularity as a songwriter and launched a solo career in 1971. With his rough voice and frank and direct language, he formed a link between traditional pop and folk songs, alternating between direct criticism of society, simple love songs, and reflections from the pub milieu that he knew so well. Several of his songs remain popular, for example, ''Der er noget galt i Danmark'', ''Så længe jeg lever'', and ''Fut i fejemøjet''.
