Sorento is a village in Bond County, Illinois, United States. The population was 429 at the 2020 census. Sorento is part of the St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is also considered part of the Metro East region of Illinois. History Sorento was founded as a village in 1882.Sorento Centennial Committee. (1982) "Founders". William Floyd Collins (July 20, 1887 – February 13, 1925) was an American cave explorer, principally in a region of Kentucky that houses hundreds of miles of interconnected caves, today a part of Mammoth Cave National Park, the longest known cave system in the world. In the early 20th century, in an era known as the Kentucky Cave Wars, spelunkers and property owners entered into bitter competition to exploit the bounty of caves for commercial profit from tourists, who paid to see the caves. Shoal Creek is a watercourse in the U.S. state of Illinois. It rises near Harvel, Illinois and, flowing southward through Lake Lou Yaeger, discharges into the Kaskaskia River near Okawville, Illinois, Okawville.
