The Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize (''Premio Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz'') is a literary prize awarded to a book written in Spanish by a female author. It is organized by the Guadalajara International Book Fair, based in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Current winners of the prize receive USD$10,000. History This prize is named after the 17th century Mexican writer, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz who is considered the first great Latin American poet and one of the most important Hispanic literary figures. Sor Juana was persecuted for being an intellectual, a woman, a nun, and a writer who wrote quite provocatively. The prize has been given out since 1993, and is given out at the yearly Guadalajara International Book Fair (''Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara'').
