Sonwar Bagh
Sonwar Bagh, sometimes referred to as Sonwar, is a residential area in Badami Bagh Cantonment on the outskirts of Srinagar city, in Srinagar district, Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is gradually becoming more commercial, as many schools, hotels and restaurants have been established there. It is home to many politicians like the ex-Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah who became the 11th, and youngest, Chief Minister of the Indian Administered state Jammu and Kashmir. Sonwar Bagh was one of the worst affected areas from the 2014 India–Pakistan floods in Jammu and Kashmir. It is surrounded by Takht-i-Sulaiman Hill on top of which is Shankaracharya Temple Location Sonwar Bagh lies parallel to the Jhelum river and National Highway road near Sonwar Bazaar (market). Srinagar
Srinagar (English: , ) is the largest city and the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Woodlands House School
Woodlands House School is a school in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Pupils range from pre-nursery stage to 12th grade. The school consists of a boys' wing and a girls' wing separately. History Woodlands House School was established by Mrs Rup SP Singh (founder and principal) in 1966 under the foothills of the Takht-e-Sulaiman/Shankaracharya Temple. The school started with few students but her leadership attracted the people of J&K in general and that of Srinagar in particular. The institution began to progress and enrolment soon increased. Indira Nagar, Srinagar
Indira Nagar is a residential area in the city of Srinagar in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It used to be a lake before but now only few hundred meters of the lake is left. This area comes under the control of Badami Bagh Cantonment along with other areas like Batwara, Shivpora and Sonwar Bagh. The cantonment is responsible for maintaining the roads, street lights etc., unlike other areas of Srinagar which are maintained by Srinagar Municipal Corporation. Lal Chowk
Lal Chowk () is a city square in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. The square was given its name by left-wing activists who were inspired by the Russian Revolution as they fought the princely state's Maharaja, Hari Singh. It has traditionally served as a place for political meetings, with Jawaharlal Nehru and Sheikh Abdullah (the first prime ministers of India and Jammu and Kashmir, respectively) as well as other prominent political leaders having addressed people from it. Shankaracharya Temple
Shankaracharya Temple or Jyeshteshwara Temple is a Hindu temple situated on top of the Shankaracharya Hill on the Zabarwan Range in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is at a height of above the valley floor and overlooks the city of Srinagar. On festivals such as Herath, as Maha Shivratri is known as in the region, the temple is visited by Kashmiri Hindus. The temple is also considered as a Buddhist icon, and with the hill which has had multiple names over the centuries, is connected to the Persian and Muslim faith as well. 2014 India–Pakistan Floods
In September 2014, the Kashmir region suffered disastrous floods across many of its districts caused by torrential rainfall. The Indian administered state of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as the Pakistani administered territories of Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and the province of Punjab were affected by these floods. By 24 September 2014, nearly 277 people in India and about 280 people in Pakistan had died due to the floods. Origin The Jammu and Kashmir union territory and adjoining areas received heavy rainfall from 2 September 2014, during the last stage of the monsoon in India.
