Miles Davis
Miles Dewey Davis III (May 26, 1926September 28, 1991) was an American trumpeter, bandleader, and composer. He is among the most influential and acclaimed figures in the history of jazz and 20th-century music. Davis adopted a variety of musical directions in a five-decade career that kept him at the forefront of many major stylistic developments in jazz. Born in Alton, Illinois, and raised in East St. Louis, Davis left to study at Juilliard in New York City, before dropping out and making his professional debut as a member of saxophonist Charlie Parker's bebop quintet from 1944 to 1948. Shortly after, he recorded the ''Birth of the Cool'' sessions for Capitol Records, which were instrumental to the development of cool jazz. ''Miles Davis and Horns'' (PRLP 7025) is a compilation album by jazz trumpeter Miles Davis, released by Prestige Records in 1956. It compiles material from different albums previously released by Prestige in the discontinued 10 inch LP format. The fifth, sixth, and eighth tracks were originally issued on the various artists album '' Modern Jazz Trumpets'' (PRLP 113), and had also been issued as 78rpm singles. Tracks 1–4 first appeared on '' Miles Davis Plays The Compositions Of Al Cohn'' (PRLP 154). Track 3 was also previously released as the B-side of the "Morpheus" single (Prestige 734). Track 7 was originally on '' Blue Period'' (PRLP 140). Charlie Mariano
Carmine Ugo Mariano (November 12, 1923 – June 16, 2009) was an American jazz saxophonist who focused on the alto and soprano saxophone. He occasionally performed and recorded on flute and nadaswaram as well. Biography Mariano was born in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, the son of Italian immigrants, John (Giovanni) Mariano and Mary (Maria) Di Gironimo of Fallo, Italy. He grew up in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston, enlisting in the Army Air Corps after high school, during World War II. After his service in the Army, Mariano attended what was then known as Schillinger House of Music, now Berklee College of Music. He was among the faculty at Berklee from 1965 to 1971. Mariano moved to Europe in 1971, settling eventually in Köln (Cologne), Germany, with his third wife, the painter Dorothee Zippel Mariano. Tony Scott (born Anthony Joseph Sciacca June 17, 1921 – March 28, 2007) was an American jazz clarinetist and arranger with an interest in folk music around the world. For most of his career he was held in high esteem in new-age music circles because of his involvement in music linked to Asian cultures and to meditation. John Glasel
Joseph Samuel Glasel (born 1930, Manhattan, New York) known professionally as Johnny Glasel, was an American jazz trumpeter. Glasel played with Bob Wilber in the 1940s. He attended the Yale School of Music in the 1950s, then played in the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and chamber music ensembles in performances with jazz musicians. In New York City, he was a member of a Glenn Miller tribute band led by Ray McKinley. He performed in orchestras on Broadway and at Radio City Music Hall. He released several albums during the 1950s and 1960s. In addition to his work with Gil Evans (most notably on '' Into the Hot''), he recorded extensively as a pop session musician and often did so uncredited. He is known to have played with John Denver and Astrud Gilberto. Glasel became president of Local 802 of the New York City Musicians' Union early in the 1980s, maintaining the position until 1992. Bob Wilber
Robert Sage Wilber (March 15, 1928 – August 4, 2019) was an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, and band leader. Although his scope covers a wide range of jazz, Wilber was a dedicated advocate of classic styles, working throughout his career to present traditional jazz pieces in a contemporary manner. He played with many distinguished jazz leaders in the 1950s and 1960s, including Bobby Hackett, Benny Goodman, Sidney Bechet, Jack Teagarden and Eddie Condon. In the late 1960s, he was an original member of the World's Greatest Jazz Band, and in the early 70s of Soprano Summit, a band which gained wide attention. In the late 1970s, he formed the Bechet Legacy Band. Wilber was active in jazz education, including working as director of the Smithsonian Jazz Repertory Ensemble.
