Sonny DiChiara
Sonny DiChiara (born July 29, 1999) is an American baseball first baseman who plays in the Los Angeles Angels organization. Amateur career DiChiara grew up in Hoover, Alabama and attended Hoover High School. DiChiara began his collegiate career at Samford. He was named the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year after hitting 21 home runs and driving in 55 runs. DiChiara was batting .328 before the 2020 season was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic. As a junior, he batted .273 and led the Southern Conference with 18 home runs. After the season DiChiara transferred to Auburn. DiChiara entered his senior season at the Tigers' starting first baseman. He was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Player of the Year at the end of the season, sharing the award with Louisiana State University’s Dylan Crews. A first baseman, abbreviated 1B, is the player on a baseball or softball team who fields the area nearest first base, the first of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. The first baseman is responsible for the majority of plays made at that base. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the first baseman is assigned the number 3. Also called first sacker or cornerman, the first baseman is ideally a tall player who throws left-handed and possesses good flexibility and quick reflexes. The ''Opelika-Auburn News'' is a daily newspaper in Alabama, serving Opelika, Auburn, and the surrounding communities. History The newspaper began as the weekly ''Opelika Industrial News'', on September 11, 1890. On May 30, 1904, the newspaper began publication as the ''Opelika Daily News''. In 1968, Millard B. The Rocket City Trash Pandas are a Minor League Baseball team of the Southern League and the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels. They are located in Madison, Alabama, and play their home games at Toyota Field. History In November 2017, BallCorps LLC purchased the Southern League's Mobile BayBears from owners Michael Savit and HWS Group for the purpose of relocating the team to Madison, Alabama, in 2020. Upon relocation, the team was renamed the Rocket City Trash Pandas. The name is a reference to both the area's association with the space industry, namely from Huntsville, and the determination and ingenuity of raccoons (which are native to the Huntsville area; "trash panda" is a slang nickname for the animal due to their facial resemblance to the panda and their tendency to dig through trash).
