Sonny Collins
Alfred Eugene "Sonny" Collins (born January 17, 1953) is a former American football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round of the 1976 NFL draft. He played college football at Kentucky. College career Collins rushed for 3,835 yards with 26 touchdowns during his college career and was the 1973 SEC Player of the Year. He finished his collegiate career at Kentucky as the all-time leading rusher. The record would stand for 43 years until Benny Snell surpassed it in 2019. In 2012, he was named an SEC Football Legend. Running Back
A running back (RB) is a member of the offensive backfield in gridiron football. The primary roles of a running back are to receive American football plays#Offensive terminology, handoffs from the quarterback to Rush (American football)#Offense, rush the ball, to line up as a receiver to catch the ball, and Blocking (American football), block. There are usually one or two running backs on the field for a given play, depending on the offensive formation. 1976 NFL Draft
The 1976 National Football League draft was an annual player selection meeting held April 8–9, 1976, at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City, New York. The draft lasted 17 rounds, with the expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks making the first two selections. The Buccaneers were awarded the first overall pick of the draft after winning a draw over the Seahawks, and used that pick to select defensive tackle Lee Roy Selmon. The expansion teams were also given a pair of extra picks at the end of each of rounds 2-5. The 1976 draft was the final NFL draft to last seventeen rounds; it was reduced to twelve rounds in 1977, and it was the first draft to officially have the infamous unofficial award, "Mr. Irrelevant", for the final player selected. Benjamin Snell Jr. (born February 26, 1998) is an American football running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Kentucky. Snell is the great-nephew of former New York Jets running back Matt Snell His father, Benjamin Snell, Sr. is an alumnus of Ohio Northern University, played in the NFL Europe and the XFL. Early years Snell Jr. attended Westerville Central High School. During his time there, he won two Ohio Capital Conference titles.
