Sonia Eubanks Barker
Sonia Eubanks Barker is an American politician who serves a Republican member of the Arkansas House of Representatives. Having previously represented the 7th district, she currently represents the state's 96th district. Biography Barker graduated with honors from Southern Arkansas University. She then proceeded to work as a high school teacher in Smackover. In 2015, incumbent Democrat state representative John Blaine announced his retirement. Barker announced her candidacy and ran unopposed in the Republican primary. She won the November 2016 general election, after defeating Democrat Floyd Thomas, Jr. and independent candidate Glenn Glover. She took office in January 2017. Barker was re-elected to a second term in the 2018 election. She is currently seeking another term in the 2020 election. John Baine (politician)
John Baine (born in El Dorado, Arkansas) is an American politician and a Democratic member of the Arkansas House of Representatives representing District 7 from January 2013 to December 2016. He is a member of the NRA. Education Baine earned his bachelor's degree in public administration from the University of Mississippi, his BS in accounting and his MPA from Arkansas State University, and his Master of Accountancy from Louisiana Tech University. Elections In 2012 District 7 Representative Garry Smith ran for Arkansas Senate and left the seat open. Southern Arkansas University (SAU) is a public university in Magnolia, Arkansas. History Southern Arkansas University was established by an Act of the Arkansas Legislature in 1909 as a district agricultural high school for southwest Arkansas and was originally named Third District Agricultural School, often called by students and faculty "TDAS." Its first term began in January 1911, with its curriculum including only subjects at the secondary school level. In 1925, the State Legislature authorized the school to add two years of college work and to change its name to Agricultural and Mechanical College, Third District (Magnolia A&M). The school continued to offer both high school and junior college courses until 1937, at which time the high school courses were discontinued. The Arkansas State House of Representatives is the lower house of the Arkansas General Assembly, the state legislature of the US state of Arkansas. Smackover
Smackover is a small city in northern Union County, Arkansas, United States. According to the 2010 census, the population was at 1,865. It had a large oil boom in the 1920s, with production continuing for some time. History In 1686, the French settlers called this area ''"Sumac Couvert"'', which translates to "covered in sumac bushes". This was transliterated, that is, phonetically Anglicized by the English-speaking settlers of the 19th century and later to the name "Smackover." The name Bayou de Chemin Couvert (Smackover Creek) first appeared in an April 5, 1789, letter written by the commandant of Fort Miro (Monroe, Louisiana) to the French territorial governor.
