Songklanagarind Hospital () is a university teaching hospital, affiliated to the Faculty of Medicine of Prince of Songkla University, located in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province. It is a hospital capable of super tertiary care and is the first university hospital in Southern Thailand. History On 26 August 1976, King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit laid the foundation for the construction of the faculty's main teaching hospital, which was to be constructed for the following purposes: * Use as a clinical training hospital for doctors, nurses and healthcare personnel * Provide medical care, both prevention and cure to citizens in Southern Thailand * Provide special equipment for patient diagnosis in the hospital and nearby hospitals * Use as a research center to improve the healthcare in Southern Thailand Ten years later on 18 September 1986, the King and Princess Sirindhorn opened the hospital and named it 'Songklanagarind' Hospital. Hat Yai District
Hat Yai ( th, หาดใหญ่, ) is a district ('' amphoe'') of Songkhla province, southern Thailand. Geography Neighboring districts are (from the west clockwise): Khuan Kalong of Satun province; Rattaphum, Bang Klam, Khuan Niang, Singhanakhon, Mueang Songkhla, Na Mom, Chana, Sadao, and Khlong Hoi Khong. The Faculty of Medicine, Prince of Songkla University () is the sixth oldest medical school in Thailand located in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province and is the fourth oldest faculty of Prince of Songkla University, opening in 1972 by royal decree. History Due to a lack of medical and healthcare personnel in Thailand, as well as various healthcare issues in Southern Thailand, the council of Prince of Songkla University requested for the construction of a Faculty of Medicine on 11 September 1968. The project was approved on 17 August 1971 and construction began at the Hat Yai campus of the university. The first cohort of medical students was accepted in June 1973, consisting of 35 students. Teaching was done in the Faculty of Science for the preclinical years and Hatyai Hospital and Songkhla Hospital during the clinical years. Prince Of Songkla University
Prince of Songkla University (PSU) ( th, มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์; ) is the first university in southern Thailand, established in 1967. The name of the university was granted by the King Bhumibol Adulyadej in honor of Prince Mahidol Adulyadej, Prince of Songkla, the King's father. The university consists of four campuses and one education service area. In 1968, the first permanent campus was established in Pattani. The campus in Hat Yai was opened in 1971 and is now the main campus, with more than 50% of the university's students. Other campuses were established in Phuket (1977) and Surat Thani (1990). Additionally, the Trang education service area was founded in 1991 and later developed to be a campus of PSU in 1999. Southern Thailand, Southern Siam or Tambralinga is a southernmost cultural region of Thailand, separated from Central Thailand region by the Kra Isthmus. Queen Sirikit ( th, สิริกิติ์; ; ); born ''Mom Rajawongse'' Sirikit Kitiyakara ( th, สิริกิติ์ กิติยากร; ; 12 August 1932) is the queen mother of Thailand. She was List of Thai royal consorts, Queen of Thailand as the wife of Bhumibol Adulyadej (or Rama (King of Thailand), King Rama IX) and is the mother of the current King Vajiralongkorn (or King Rama X).
