Song Wencong
Song Wencong (; 26 March 1930 – 22 March 2016) was a Chinese aerospace engineer and aircraft designer, who was responsible for the development of the single seat version of the Chengdu J-10. He was a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Biography Song was born on 26 March 1930, in Kunming, Yunnan, with his ancestral home in Dali, Yunnan. He joined a youth organization of the Communist Party of China by the end of 1948. He enlisted in the Yunnan-Guangxi-Guizhou border region column of PLA in July 1949 as a scout. In May 1951, he joined the Chinese People's Volunteer Army to fight against the American-led United Nations forces in the Korean War. In August 1954, he was accepted to Harbin Institute of Military Engineering (now Harbin Engineering University), where he majored in aircraft engine at the Air Force Engineering Department. Song is the pinyin transliteration of the Chinese family name 宋. It is transliterated as Sung in Wade-Giles, and Soong is also a common transliteration. Yang Wei (; born May 1963) is a Chinese aerospace engineer and aircraft designer. He is a vice president of the China Association for Science and Technology (中国科学技术协会) and a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (中国科学院), class of 2017. He is also a member of the Chinese Communist Party. Biography Yang was born in Beijing in 1963 with ancestral roots in Zizhong County, Neijiang, Sichuan province. Education and early career Yang was the youngest general designer China ever had, completing his undergraduate education by the age of 19, and graduate education by the age of 22 from the Northwestern Polytechnical University. Chengdu Aircraft Design Institute
The Chengdu Aircraft Research & Design Institute (CADI), or 611 Research and Design Institute ( zh, c=成都飞机设计研究所, p=Chéngdū fēijī shèjì yánjiūsuǒ), is a design institute and works with the Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group for military aircraft. Built in 1970, it covers an area of 310,000 square meters. History In May 1970, the Shenyang design team for the J-9 moved to Chengdu; this was part of the " Third Line" program that moved defence industries to the interior to make them less vulnerable to foreign attack.
