Sona Akhundova-Garayeva
Sona Iskander gizi Akhundova-Garayeva (16 October 1898, Baku – 19 October 1971) was an Azerbaijani poetess and one of the first women in Azerbaijan to receive higher education. She was a mother of composer Gara Garayev and doctor Mursal Garayev. Early life and education Sona Iskander gizi Akhundova was born on 16 October 1898 in Baku. Her father was Iskander Mirza Abdulhuseyn bey oglu Akhundov, a graduate of the University of Krakow-Jagiellonian, and mother Zuleykha Bayramalibeyova, one of the educated and enlightened women of her time. At the age of 13 Akhundova’s parents sent her to a girls’ school under the Baku Municipality. After graduating from this school, she continued her education at the Baku branch of St. Nina School. Later Akhundova studied piano music. Akhundova showed interest in poetry when she was still in school. Mursal Garayev
Mursal Garayev ( az, Mürsəl Qarayev, 4 November 1919 — 26 September 1975) was a Soviet surgeon, doctor of sciences in medicine, chief surgeon of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Azerbaijan SSR. Biography Mursal Garayev was born on November 4, 1919 in the family of a doctor-pediatrician, head of the pediatric department of the Azerbaijan Medical Institute, Honored Scientist, Professor Abulfaz Garayev and poetess Sona Akhundova-Garayeva in Fatmai. In 1938, after graduating from high school number 23 in Baku, he entered the Azerbaijan Medical Institute and in 1942 graduated from the faculty of treatment and prevention. While he was still in his final year at the institute, he began his surgical career as a subordinator in the Department of Hospital Surgery. Mirza Alakbar Sabir ( az, Mirzə Ələkbər Sabir); born Alakbar Zeynalabdin oglu Tahirzadeh (30 May 1862, in Shamakhy – 12 July 1911, in Shamakhy) was an Azerbaijani satirical poet, public figure, philosopher and teacher. He set up a new attitude to classical traditions, rejecting well-trodden ways in poetry. The artistic thought of the Azerbaijani people found expression in Fuzûlî's works. Abulfaz Garayev (pediatrician)
Abulfaz Faraj oghlu Garayev ( az, Əbülfəz Fərəc oğlu Qarayev; April 20, 1885, in Baku – October 24, 1952), also spelled as Abulfaz Qarayev, was the first Azerbaijani pediatrician, honored scientist of Azerbaijan. Biography Abulfaz Faraj oghlu Garayev was born on April 20, 1885, in Baku. He entered the Baku Gymnasium in 1896 and graduated in 1907. After graduating from the gymnasium, he entered the Medical Faculty of Novorossiysk University in Odessa. Abulfaz Garayev graduated from university in 1912 with honors diploma and was kept at the university for being a well-educated graduate. After working for two years at the Children Diseases Clinic, Abulfaz Garayev returned to Baku in 1915.
