Sommayya Maneypande
Maneyapanda Muthanna Somaya (born 8 May 1959) is a former Indian field hockey player and was employed with Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd. As a field hockey player, he was captain of the Indian national team and played as a halfback. He played in 3 Olympic Games in 1980, 1984 and 1988. He was a member of the Gold medal winning team in 1980 and captained the Indian team at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Somaya was a member of India squad that won the gold medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. He went on to play in two more Olympic Games — the 1984, and the 1988, captaining the side in the latter event. Somaya had a successful corporate career after his playing days with Bharat Petroleum. In 2007, he was bestowed the Life Time Achievement award by the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board. Madikeri
Madikeri is a hill station town in Madikeri taluk and headquarters of Kodagu district in Karnataka, India. Etymology Madikeri was known as ''Muddu Raja Keri'', which meant Mudduraja's town, was named after the prominent Haleri king Mudduraja who ruled Kodagu from 1633 to 1687. From 1834, during the British Raj, it was called ''Mercara''. It was later renamed to Madikeri by the Government of Mysore. History The history of Madikeri is related to the history of Kodagu. 1984 Summer Olympics
The 1984 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the XXIII Olympiad and also known as Los Angeles 1984) were an international multi-sport event held from July 28 to August 12, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, United States. Field hockey in India refers to two teams, the India men's national field hockey team and the India women's national field hockey team. In July 2018, Indian state Odisha wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to declare field hockey as the national sport of India. The state government of Odisha has been supporting India's national field hockey team from February 2018 till next five years. The 2018 Men's Hockey World Cup was held in the Odisha capital Bhubaneswar between 28 November and 16 December and culminated with Belgium as World Champions defeating Netherlands in the finals. The 1986 Hockey World Cup was the sixth Hockey World Cup men's field hockey tournament. It was held in London, England.
