Sometime (Gene Thomas Song)
"Sometime" is a song written by Gene & Debbe, Gene Thomas, originally released by Venus Records in 1961. After it enjoyed regional success, it was reissued on the United Artists Records, United Artists label. The song became a top 100 hit on the national chart. The song was later covered by Doug Sahm and by the Flamin' Groovies. Recording and release "Sometime" was recorded during Gene & Debbe, Gene Thomas' first session at Gold Star Studios in Houston, Texas, produced by Bill Quinn. Thomas wrote the lyrics, while his performance was influenced by the contemporary success of Joe Barry (singer), Joe Barry and Rod Bernard. The song was credited to "Thomasson" (the real surname of Thomas) and published by Grand Prize Music. The flipside featured another Thomas original, "Everynight". Gene and Debbe were an American pop/country duo hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, United States. They had some brief successes on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart. Gene Thomas (born Gene Thomasson on 28 December 1937, Palestine, Texas, died 26 August 2012 in Fredericksburg, Texas) had some minor success in the early 1960s with the songs " Sometime" and "Baby's Gone" (1964). After the latter, he dabbled in writing music for a few years. His songs have been performed or covered by numerous other country singers including Waylon Jennings, Kenny Rogers and Everly Brothers as well as Tina Turner. After a few years, Gene met with aspiring crooner, Debbe Neville, (or Nevills as some sources say). In an Everly Brothers style of harmonizing, they launched a career at Acuff-Rose music, singing romantic country style pop melodies. Eugene "Gene" Warren Thomas (September 1, 1942 – August 27, 1993) was an American football fullback and halfback in the American Football League and played in Super Bowl I. He attended North High School in Akron, Ohio, and played college football at Florida A&M University. During his pro-career, played for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Boston Patriots. The ''Corpus Christi Caller-Times'' is the newspaper of record for Corpus Christi, Texas. History There has been a newspaper in Corpus Christi for almost as long as there has been a town. In 1883, the ''Caller'' was started in a frame building at 310 North Chaparral, now the site of Green's Jewelers. Roy Miller was editor of the ''Caller'' 1907–1911, when it was an enterprise of the King Ranch; he sold his interest in it in 1929. Later, there was a newspaper called the ''Times''. Both were located on North Chaparral in 1920. In the late 1920s, the two were combined to become the ''Caller-Times''. ''Texas Rock for Country Rollers'' is the third album by American country-music singer Doug Sahm. Sahm composed for the album seven original songs, while covers constituted the rest of the album. It was released by ABC-Dot in 1976. Recording The album was recorded at SugarHill Recording Studios, in Houston, Texas. The session was produced by Huey P. Meaux and engineered by Mickey Moody. Meaux financed the costs with the success of his Freddy Fender recordings. In addition to vocals, Sahm contributed to the album by playing the lead guitar, fiddle and piano. The backup band consisted of Augie Meyers (keyboards, organ, piano, vocals), Atwood Allen (backing vocals), Harry Hess (steel guitar), Jack Barber (bass) and George Rains (drums). David Eugene Summers (January 3, 1939 – February 17, 2021) was an American rockabilly singer, songwriter and guitarist. His most famous recordings include the late 50s "School of Rock 'n Roll", "Straight Skirt", " Nervous", "Gotta Lotta That", "Twixteen", "Alabama Shake", "Fancy Dan" and his biggest-selling single "Big Blue Diamonds". Baytown is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, within Harris and Chambers counties. Located in the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan statistical area, it lies on the northern side of the Galveston Bay complex near the outlets of the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou. SugarHill Recording Studios is a recording studio in Houston, Texas. The studio was important in launching the careers of such artists as Lightnin' Hopkins, The Big Bopper, George Jones, the Sir Douglas Quintet, Roy Head, and Freddy Fender.
