Something To Lust About
Scarlet is a metalcore band from Richmond, Virginia currently on a long term hiatus. History Scarlet formed in Yorktown, Virginia in the late 1990s. In 2000, the band released its first EP ''Breaking the Dead Stare''. Shortly afterward, Scarlet disbanded with Jon Spencer leaving to perform vocals for Virginia Beach-based metalcore band, Spitfire. Scarlet reformed in 2003 with Spencer returning on vocals. Scarlet released ''Something to Lust About'' on Ferret Music. The EP served as a teaser for Scarlet's first full-length album, ''Cult Classic''. At its live shows prior to ''Cult Classic's'' release, Scarlet would perform ''Something to Lust About'' straight through. ''Cult Classic'' was released in March 2004 on Ferret Music. Metalcore
Metalcore (also known as metallic hardcore) is a fusion music genre that combines elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk. As with other styles blending metal and hardcore, such as crust punk and grindcore, metalcore is noted for its use of breakdowns, slow, intense passages conducive to moshing. Other defining instrumental qualities include heavy riffs and stop-start rhythm guitar playing, occasional blast beats, and double bass drumming. Mathcore
Mathcore is a subgenre of hardcore punk and metalcore influenced by post-hardcore, extreme metal and math rock that developed during the 1990s. Bands in the genre emphasize complex and fluctuant rhythms through the use of irregular time signatures, polymeters, syncopations and tempo changes. Early mathcore lyrics were addressed from a realistic worldview and with a pessimistic, defiant, resentful or sarcastic point of view. In the 1990s, the hardcore punk scene started to embrace extreme metal openly. It also started to become highly ideological, with most of the popular bands being part of subcultures. This led to bands such as Converge, Botch, Coalesce and The Dillinger Escape Plan to establish the genre. Ferret Music
Ferret Music was an American independent record label turned Warner Music Group subsidiary, founded in 1996. The label is owned by NORA's vocalist, Carl Severson, and based in West Windsor, New Jersey. Ferret recently started an imprint called New Weathermen Records. Warner Music Group's Alternative Distribution Alliance acquired a stake in Ferret Music in August, 2006, and as a result is currently distributed by Fontana Distribution, Alternative Distribution Alliance and eOne Music. Spitfire (US Band)
Spitfire is an American metalcore band from Virginia Beach, Virginia. They first formed in the late 1990s and were previously signed to Goodfellow Records. History Originally, the band featured vocalist and guitarist Matt Beck, drummer Chris Raines, and bassist Jimmy Reeves. With this lineup, they released an EP called ''Straining Towards What's To Come'' on 2Jake Records and ''The Dead Next Door'' on Solid State Records in 1999. For a brief time, Beck left the band and was replaced by Randy Vanderbilt ( Scarlet) on guitar and Jon Spencer (ex-Scarlet) on vocals. With this new vocalist and guitarist, Spitfire released a second EP, called ''The Slideshow Whiplash'', for Goodfellow Records. The band broke up in 2002.
