Somebody's Image
Somebody's Image was a short lived rock and pop Australian band, most famous for the Joe South's cover "Hush" which peaked at number 15 in Australia in 1967. History In 1966, the fledgling band began hanging around gigs by The Groop, who were a favourite of Melbourne pop fans during 1966. Eventually, the group played their first live gig, which was headlined by The Groop. The new group immediately attracted the attention of their future mentors, particularly keyboardist Brian Cadd and singer Ronnie Charles. Somebody's Image quickly developed a strong following at Melbourne's premier venues and it wasn't long before the band came to the notice of Go-Set staff writer Ian Meldrum, who was already championing The Groop relentlessly in his columns. Meldrum took over as their manager. Somebody's Image began their recording career with the single "Heat Wave" a cover of the Martha and the Vandellas song, but it failed to chart. Ian Meldrum
Ian Alexander "Molly" Meldrum AM (born 29 January 1943) is an Australian music critic, journalist, record producer and musical entrepreneur. He was the talent co-ordinator, on-air interviewer, and music news presenter on the former popular music program ''Countdown'' (1974–87) and is widely recognised for his trademark Stetson hat, which he has regularly worn in public since the 1980s (it is commonly mistaken for an Akubra). Meldrum has featured on the Australian music scene since the mid-1960s, first with his writing for ''Go-Set'' (1966–74), a weekly teen newspaper, then during his tenure with ''Countdown'' and subsequent media contributions. Martha And The Vandellas
Martha and the Vandellas (known from 1967 to 1972 as Martha Reeves & The Vandellas) were an American vocal girl group formed in Detroit in 1957. The group achieved fame in the 1960s with Motown. An act founded by friends Annette Beard, Rosalind Ashford and Gloria Williams, the group eventually included Martha Reeves, who moved up in ranks as lead vocalist of the group after Williams' departure in 1962. The group signed with and eventually recorded all of their singles for Motown's Gordy imprint. The group's string of hits included "Come and Get These Memories", "Heat Wave", "Quicksand", " Nowhere to Run", "Jimmy Mack", "I'm Ready for Love", "Bless You" and "Dancing in the Street", the latter song becoming their signature single. "Heat Wave" is a 1963 song written by the Holland–Dozier–Holland songwriting team. It was first made popular by the Motown vocal group Martha and the Vandellas. Released as a 45 rpm single on July 9, 1963, on the Motown subsidiary Gordy label, it hit number one on the ''Billboard'' Hot R&B chart—where it stayed for four weeks—and peaking at number 4 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. It was recorded 12 years later by rock vocalist Linda Ronstadt on her Platinum-selling 1975 album ''Prisoner in Disguise''. Ronstadt's version of the song was released as a single in September 1975, reaching number 5 in '' Billboard'', 4 in ''Cash Box'', and 6 in '' Record World''.
