Solway is an unincorporated community in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The United States Geographic Names System classifies Solway as a populated place. The area is located between Oak Ridge and Knoxville, just southeast of the Clinch River (Melton Hill Lake), which forms the Anderson County line. It lies on Oak Ridge Highway, also known as Tennessee State Route 62, just north of its intersection with Pellissippi Parkway. Beaver Creek flows through the area. Solway Harvester
The ''Solway Harvester'' was a scallop dredger from Kirkcudbright, Scotland which sank off the coast of Douglas, Isle of Man in heavy seas on 11 January 2000 with the loss of all seven crew members. Following salvage, the damaged ship was taken to Douglas, where she remained until dismantled for scrap in January 2014. Career and sinking The ''Solway Harvester'' was launched in 1992. An automated scallop dredger, she was fitted with sections along the sides which would rotate out and upwards to deposit the catch on the deck. She was 70 ft (21m) long and had accommodation for eight on board, plus a workshop, ice machine and storage for the catch. She was owned by Richard Gidney and operated under the command of her skipper, Andrew (Craig) Mills. Her crew were all from the Isle of Whithorn in Wigtownshire in Dumfries and Galloway. ''Solway Lass'' is a two-Mast (sailing), masted schooner. She was built in the Netherlands in 1902 and is currently operated out of Airlie Beach, Australia as a holiday sailor in the Whitsunday Islands National Park, Whitsunday Islands. History The ship, originally named ''Stina'', was built out of German steel with timber decking as a sail powered cargo vessel. In 1905, she was sold and renamed ''Adolf'', working in and around the Baltic Sea, Baltic and North Sea, North seas. In 1915, she was seized as a prize of war by the British Royal Navy and used as a Q-Ship during World War I. After the war, she worked as a coal, produce and stone carrying vessel between Liverpool and Scotland. Larry Solway
Lawrence S. "Larry" Solway (13 August 1928 – 9 January 2012) was a Canadian actor and broadcaster. Career During the 1960s he hosted radio programmes at CHUM in Toronto such as the early Canadian talk show ''Speak Your Mind''. He left the station in 1970 due to a dispute with the station over a series of shows on sex. In the aftermath, he wrote ''The Day I Invented Sex'' about the controversy. Solway was known nationally as a panelist of the CBC Television programme ''This Is the Law'' in the early 1970s. He returned to the radio talk show circuit later that decade with ''Talkback'' on Brampton, Ontario station CHIC until management there dismissed him without warning. David Solway
David Solway (born 8 December 1941) is a Canadian poet, educational theorist, travel writer and literary critic. He is a member of the Jubilate Circle and formerly a teacher of English Literature at John Abbott College. He has spent most of his life in the Montreal area and now lives in Hudson, Quebec. Solway is known for his work both as a poet, essayist and as a teacher, as well as for his polemical outspokenness, especially in opposition to Islam and in defense of Zionism, George W. Bush and the war on terror. He has contributed political commentary to the conservative websites WorldNetDaily and PJ Media. He has been described as a part of the counter-jihad movement. For inspiration, he invented a Greek poet named Andreas Karavis as a heteronym, whose work he published in apparent translation. Solway is an old-established residential suburb near the Waingawa River in the south-western part of Masterton, the principal town in the Wairarapa, Wairarapa Valley of New Zealand's North Island. Solway Plain
The Solway Plain or Solway Basin is a coastal plain located mostly in northwest Cumbria in England, extending just over the Scottish border to the low-lying area around Gretna and Annan. It lies generally north and west of Carlisle along the Solway Firth, and is drained by the rivers Esk and Lyne. It is associated with the westernmost part of Hadrian's Wall. In medieval times, clay houses known as ''dabbins'' were commonly built on the Solway Plain. The Solway coast has been designated an “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty”. The plain is known for its archaeological heritage.
