Solongo Batsukh
Solongo Batsukh is a Mongolian beauty queen, model and make-up artist. As of 2018, she was one of the few openly transgender people in Mongolia. Solongo Batsukh was born Bilguun Batsukh and grew up as a boy in Dundgovi province. She learnt about different gender identities as a student, and whilst working at an LGBT organisation, she realised she was a woman and began hormone therapy. Batsukh works as a model and make-up artist. She became a celebrity in Mongolia in 2014, after participating in Miss International Queen, a transgender beauty pageant held in Thailand. She later participated in Miss Universe Mongolia 2018. She advocates for transgender rights in television appearances and on social media. Beauty Queen
A beauty pageant is a competition that has traditionally focused on judging and ranking the physical attributes of the contestants. Pageants have now evolved to include inner beauty, with criteria covering judging of personality, intelligence, talent, character, and charitable involvement, through private interviews with judges and answers to public on-stage questions. The term beauty pageant refers originally to the Big Four international beauty pageants. LGBT Centre Mongolia
The LGBT Centre Mongolia ( mn, ЛГБТ төв) was founded in 2007 and is based in Ulaanbaatar. After a legal struggle, it was officially recognised in 2009. It then submitted reports to the United Nations which encouraged the Mongolian government to change its criminal code. The centre supports LGBT rights in Mongolia and has organised an annual Pride march since 2013. It was awarded the Felipa de Souza Award in 2011. LGBT Rights In Mongolia
Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in Mongolia face legal and social challenges not experienced by non-LGBT people, though there have been substantial improvements since the 1990s. Homosexuality was criminalised in Mongolia in 1961 through its Criminal Code. Following the Mongolian Revolution of 1990 and the peaceful transition to a democracy, homosexuality was legalised and awareness about LGBT people has become more prevalent. Hate crimes on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity result in additional legal penalties. Hate speech based on these two categories has been outlawed in the country since 1 July 2017. Miss International Queen is the world's biggest beauty pageant for transgender women. The pageant was conceived in 2004 and named the largest and most prestigious by CNN original American documentary television series This Is Life with Lisa Ling aired on 26 November 2017.
