Solomon Tsehaye Beraki
Solomon Tsehaye Beraki (; born December 1956 in Addi Quitta) is an Eritrean poet, academic and politician. He wrote the national anthem of Eritrea, " Eritrea, Eritrea, Eritrea". , he was working in the Eritrean Ministry of Education. Biography Solomon was born in December 1956 in Addi Quetta, a village in southern Eritrea. He attended elementary school in Eritrea before moving to Addis Ababa after passing an entrance exam and winning a scholarship at the then British-run General Wingate Secondary School, a boarding school. He returned to Eritrea after the 1974 military coup brought the Derg to power. The Derg (also spelled Dergue; , ), officially the Provisional Military Administrative Council (PMAC), was the military junta that ruled Ethiopia, then including present-day Eritrea, from 1974 to 1987, when the military leadership formally " civilianized" the administration but stayed in power until 1991. The Derg was established in June 1974 as the Coordinating Committee of the Armed Forces, Police and Territorial Army, by officers of the Ethiopian Army and Police led initially by chairman Mengistu Haile Mariam. Barefoot doctors () were healthcare providers who underwent basic medical training and worked in rural villages in China. They included farmers, folk healers, rural healthcare providers, and recent middle or secondary school graduates who received minimal basic medical and paramedical education. The Eritrean War of Independence was a war for independence which Eritrean independence fighters waged against successive Ethiopian governments from 1 September 1961 to 24 May 1991. Eritrea was an Italian colony from the 1880s until the defeat of the Italians by the Allies of World War II in 1941, Eritrea then briefly became a British protectorate until 1951. The General Assembly of the United Nations held a meeting about the fate of Eritrea, in which the majority of the delegates voted for the federation of Eritrea with Ethiopia, and Eritrea became a constituent state of the Federation of Ethiopia and Eritrea in 1952.
