Solomon Islands National Rugby Sevens Team
Solomon Islands national rugby sevens team is a national sporting side that represents the Solomon Islands in rugby sevens. They participate in the Pacific Games and regional tournaments. History The Solomon Islands finished in seventh place in the 2011 Pacific Games defeating Tokelau 33–7. They competed at the 2023 Oceania Sevens Championship in Brisbane, they ranked sixth overall after their defeat to Tonga in the fifth place playoff. At the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, the Solomon Islands won their opening pool games against Tahiti, and Wallis and Futuna. They were later thrashed by Fiji and knocked out off the Championship quarterfinals. Solomon Islands
Solomon Islands is an island country consisting of six major islands and over 900 smaller islands in Oceania, to the east of Papua New Guinea and north-west of Vanuatu. It has a land area of , and a population of approx. 700,000. Its capital, Honiara, is located on the largest island, Guadalcanal. The country takes its name from the wider area of the Solomon Islands (archipelago), which is a collection of Melanesian islands that also includes the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (currently a part of Papua New Guinea), but excludes the Santa Cruz Islands. The islands have been settled since at least some time between 30,000 and 28,800 BCE, with later waves of migrants, notably the Lapita people, mixing and producing the modern indigenous Solomon Islanders population. 2017 Oceania Sevens Championship
The 2017 Oceania Sevens Championship was the tenth Oceania Sevens in men's rugby sevens. It was held at ANZ Stadium in Suva, Fiji on 10–11 November 2017. The tournament was won by Fiji who defeated New Zealand 26–0 in the final. The 2016 Oceania Sevens Championship was the ninth Oceania Sevens in men's rugby sevens. It was held at ANZ Stadium in Suva, Fiji. 2015 Oceania Sevens Championship
The 2015 Oceania Sevens Championship was the eighth Oceania Sevens. It was held in West Auckland, New Zealand, West Auckland, New Zealand on 14–15 November 2015. As well as determining the regional championship, the tournament was also a qualifying event for the Rugby sevens at the 2016 Summer Olympics, 2016 Olympics sevens, with the highest-placed eligible team gaining a direct berth to Rio de Janeiro. Australia won the tournament, defeating Tonga 50–0 in the final.
