Solomon Islands Medal
The Solomon Islands Medal is a third-class award of the Order of the Solomon Islands, an order of chivalry in the Solomon Islands. It was instituted in 1981 by royal charter. This medal is given to a maximum of forty people each year, and there must be fewer than two hundred recipients at any one time. This award is placed by the Court of St James's (the Court (royal), royal court for the Monarchy of the United Kingdom, Sovereign of the United Kingdom) immediately above the Order of the British Empire, Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE), and below the Order of the British Empire, Knight/Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE/DBE). Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Recommendations for appointments to the Order of the British Empire were originally made on the nomination of the United Kingdom, the self-governing Dominions of the Empire (later Commonwealth) and the Viceroy of India. Solomon (; , ),, ; ar, سُلَيْمَان, ', , ; el, Σολομών, ; la, Salomon also called Jedidiah ( Hebrew: , Modern: , Tiberian: ''Yăḏīḏăyāh'', "beloved of Yah"), was a monarch of ancient Israel and the son and successor of David, according to the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament. He is described as having been the penultimate ruler of an amalgamated Israel and Judah. The hypothesized dates of Solomon's reign are 970–931 BCE. After his death, his son and successor Rehoboam would adopt harsh policy towards the northern tribes, eventually leading to the splitting of the Israelites between the Kingdom of Israel in the north and the Kingdom of Judah in the south.
