Solid Muldoon
The Solid Muldoon was a supposedly prehistoric "petrified human body" unearthed in 1877, at a spot now known as Muldoon Hill, near Beulah, Colorado. The figure enjoyed a brief tour of the United States before it was revealed to be a hoax. It was said to have been named after wrestler William Muldoon, whose nickname was "The Solid Man". This nickname was itself a reference to a comic song called "Muldoon, the Solid Man", written by Edward Harrigan. History The Solid Muldoon was created by George Hull in 1877, seven years after his infamous Cardiff Giant hoax. It was made of mortar, rock dust, clay, plaster, ground bones, blood and meat. Durango Herald
''The Durango Herald'' is a newspaper in Durango, Colorado. The first edition of the ''Herald'' came out June 30, 1881. Two years later, the ''Herald'' merged with the ''Record'', which had started publishing in 1880, seven months before the ''Herald''. The modern ''Herald'' traces its roots to both papers but the current ''Herald'' nameplate cites 1881 as the paper's founding year. The paper was combined in 1952 after Arthur and Morley Cowles Ballantine purchased the ''Herald-Democrat'' and the ''News''. In 1960, the name was changed to ''The Durango Herald''. Arthur was co-editor and co-publisher of the paper from 1952 until 1975. Morley was also co-editor and co-publisher and took over as chairman and editor after Arthur's death. Archaeological forgery is the manufacture of supposedly ancient items that are sold to the antiquities market and may even end up in the collections of museums. It is related to art forgery. A string of archaeological forgeries have usually followed news of prominent archaeological excavations. Historically, famous excavations like those in Crete, the Valley of the Kings in Egypt and Pompeii have caused the appearance of a number of forgeries supposedly spirited away from the dig. Those have been usually presented in the open market but some have also ended up in museum collections and as objects of serious historical study.
