Solid Gold Hits
''Solid Gold Hits'' is a greatest hits collection by Beastie Boys, released in November 2005. In contrast to 1999's '' The Sounds of Science'' double-CD anthology, ''Solid Gold Hits'' is one CD consisting of tracks that were released as singles, with the exception of "Shake Your Rump". A limited edition includes a DVD with the music videos for the same tracks. The Japanese release has a bonus song and video, "Right Right Now Now". The cover photo by Josh Cheuse features a JVC RC-M90 boombox A boombox is a transistorized portable music player featuring one or two cassette tape recorder/players and AM/FM radio, generally with a carrying handle. Beastie Boys
Beastie Boys were an American rap rock group from New York City, formed in 1978. The group was composed of Mike D, Michael "Mike D" Diamond (vocals, drums), Adam Yauch, Adam "MCA" Yauch (vocals, bass), and Ad-Rock, Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz (vocals, guitar, Programming (music), programming). Beastie Boys were formed out of members of experimental hardcore punk band the Young Aborigines in 1978, with Diamond as vocalist, Jeremy Shatan on bass guitar, John Berry (Beastie Boys), John Berry on guitar, and Kate Schellenbach on drums. When Shatan left in 1981, Yauch replaced him on bass and the band changed their name to Beastie Boys. Berry left shortly thereafter and was replaced by Horovitz. After achieving local success with the 1983 comedy hip hop single "Cooky Puss", Beastie Boys made a full transition to hip hop, and Schellenbach left. "So What'cha Want" is the second single from the album ''Check Your Head'', the third studio album by American rap rock group the Beastie Boys. Released on June 2, 1992, the song samples "Just Rhymin' With Biz", by Big Daddy Kane featuring Biz Markie, and "I've Been Watching You" by Southside Movement. The song also appears in the video game '' Rock Band 2''. Music video The music video, directed by Nathanial Hörnblowér, simply has the Beastie Boys recite the song in a woodland, addressing the viewer by looking down at the camera which is at ground level, with clips of DJ Hurricane and Money Mark interspersed throughout. It was one of the first music videos to feature slow motion action while the artists' lips remained in sync with the sound track, an effect that would later become a mainstay of music videos. ''Root Down'' is an EP by American hip hop group Beastie Boys, released in 1995. The first three tracks are variations of the track "Root Down", from the Beastie Boys' 1994 album ''Ill Communication''. The remaining seven tracks were recorded "live in Europe, winter 1995". The hidden track heard in the end is a radio jingle in Hebrew made in Israel's military radio station Galey Tzahal. It promoted a Beastie Boys special aired prior to their only two concerts in the country, in March 1995. When Mike D and Ad-Rock were interviewed at the station they heard the recording and asked for it. "Pass the Mic" is the first single from the third studio album ''Check Your Head'' by American rap group the Beastie Boys, released on April 7, 1992. Sampling lawsuit In 2003, Beastie Boys were involved in the landmark sampling (music), sampling decision, ''Newton v. Diamond''. In that case, a federal judge ruled that the band was not liable for sampling James Newton's "Choir" in their track, "Pass the Mic". The sample used is the six-second flute stab.
