Solicitor General Of Fiji
The Solicitor-General of Fiji is the Chief Executive Officer of the Attorney-General's Chambers, and as such assists the Attorney-General in advising the government on legal matters, and in performing legal work for the government. The previous Solicitor-General was Christopher Pryde, who took office in July 2007 until he was appointed Director of Public Prosecutions in 2011. The Office is currently vacant, although Deputy Solicitor-General Sharvada Sharma has been acting in the position to date. Unlike the Attorney-General, who holds political office as a member of the House of Representatives or Senate, the Solicitor-General is a civil servant. He is required by the Constitution to hold a law degree and to be a registered lawyer. William Gordon Bryce
Sir William Gordon Bryce (1913–2004) was Chief Justice of the Bahamas from 1 June 1970 to 30 June 1973. He was the son of James Chisholm Bryce and his wife Emily Susan Lees, and was educated at Bromsgrove School and Hertford College, Oxford. He was called to the bar at the Middle Temple. Nainendra Nand
Nainendra Nand was the Solicitor-General of Fiji from 1997 to 2006. He had previously worked in the Office of the Attorney-General since 1983. He was dismissed from office on 7 December 2006 for refusing to cooperate with the military junta which seized power on 5 December. Nand was educated in the United Kingdom. After receiving his LLB from the University of North London, he went on to complete an LLM from the University of London, and was admitted to the bar at Lincoln's Inn. Isikeli Uluinairai Mataitoga is Justice of Appeal in the Court of Appeal of Fiji. He was appointed as a Justice of Appeal on 27 March 2023. He was a Fijian diplomat and former Ambassador of Fiji to Japan, he was concurrently the non-resident ambassador to the Philippines, Russia, Vietnam and Brunei. Qoriniasi Babitu Bale (1941 — 21 March 2014) was a lawyer and politician who served twice as Fiji's Minister for Justice and Attorney-General, most recently from 2001 to 2006, when he was deposed in the military coup of 5 December. Like many of Fiji's most influential leaders, Bale was a native of Levukana in Vanua Balavu in the Lau Islands. Education and early career Bale was educated at Queen Victoria School then University of Otago in New Zealand, where he graduated with a LLB degree in 1969. Upon returning to Fiji, he was appointed a Crown Counsel in the Crown Law Office, and subsequently became a Crown Prosecutor in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in 1970.
