Solaristics
''Solaristics'' is the second studio album by Thessalonians, released in May 2005 by Noh Poetry Records. The album comprises recording sessions that were completed between 1992 and 1996. Reception Backroad Music called ''Solaristics'' "a great lost recording" and noted the lead track "Solaristics" as being a highlight of the sessions. Stefaan Van Ryssen of Leonardo On-Line gave the album a mixed review, stating that composers Kim Cascone and Larry Thrasher have created higher quality work elsewhere but noting that "each piece brings its own atmosphere, ranging from pensive to thoughtful, or from melancholy to gloomy." The critic went on to conclude that the album is an "interesting release for historic reasons but very dated for contemporary ears." Thessalonians (also known as PGR/Thessalonians) were a San Francisco-based electronic music group founded by Kim Cascone and Larry Thrasher. Originally, their compositions focused on infusing drone and experimental music and later integrated elements of ambient, industrial and psychedelic music. Their final line-up was Cascone, Thrasher, Don Falcone, and Paul Neyrinck. History Thessalonians were formed as a collaborative project in 1986 by keyboardist Kim Cascone and percussionist Larry Thrasher. They were joined by David Gardner, David James and Kurt Robinson to form a quintet. Noh Poetry Records
Noh Poetry Records is a San Francisco, California-based independent record label founded by musician Don Falcone and graphic artist Karen Anderson in May 1987. The label is dedicated to electronic, experimental, space rock and psychedelic music. Their first release was "Kamarupa," by Spaceship Eyes (Falcone's electronic solo project). Other Falcone bands and projects released on Noh Poetry have included Astralfish (an instrumental project with Bridget Wishart, formerly of Hawkwind), Falcone & Palmer, Fireclan (with former members of Melting Euphoria), Grindlestone, Quiet Celebration, and Thessalonians (which included Kim Cascone, Falcone, Paul Neyrinck, and Larry Thrasher). The label's first and only compilation to date featured various artists. Don Falcone
Don Falcone (born November 5, 1958) is an American producer and multi-instrumentalist, and the guiding light behind the Spirits Burning space-rock collective. In Spirits Burning and other offshoot bands and projects, his primary collaborations have been with Albert Bouchard, Bridget Wishart, Cyrille Verdeaux, Daevid Allen, and English writer and musician Michael Moorcock. Falcone was a member of Thessalonians and the original Melting Euphoria, and had a solo project called Spaceship Eyes. Biography Early recordings Falcone appeared on three albums released by Silent Records in 1993. He played keyboards and synthesizer on the album In A Garden of Eden by Heavenly Music Corporation, was in Satellite IV, which did the track “In A Sugarcube,” on the Fifty Years Of Sunshine compilation, and became a member of Thessalonians. Larry Thrasher
Larry Thrasher (born 1959) is an American experimental musician, remixer, and producer. Thrasher was a member of Psychic TV, Thee Majesty and Splinter Test. In addition, Thrasher was in collaboration with Kim Cascone on the experimental noise project Thessalonians. He is credited under the aliases DJ Cheb I Sabbah Wa Mektoub, Baba Larry Ji,. and Larriji. He is also a long time follower of Meher Baba. Trip Hop
Trip hop (sometimes used synonymously with "downtempo") is a musical genre that originated in the early 1990s in the United Kingdom, especially Bristol. Kim Cascone (December 21, 1955) is an Italian American composer of electronic music who is known for his releases in the ambient, drone, industrial and electro-acoustic genre on his own record label, Silent Records. Biography In 1989 Cascone became an assistant music editor for director David Lynch on ''Twin Peaks'' and '' Wild At Heart''. Musically he has used various aliases over the years but became best known under the moniker Heavenly Music Corporation, a name taken from a track on the record ''(No Pussyfooting)'' by Brian Eno and Robert Fripp. Cascone released four full albums under this name from 1993 to 1996. In 1996 Cascone sold Silent Records and Pulsoniq Distribution to work as a sound designer/composer for Thomas Dolby's company Beatnik.
