Sola Sierra
Sola Sierra (1 December 1935 – 1 July 1999) was a Chilean human rights activist. She was director of Relatives of the Detained-Disappeared and campaigned to find out the truth about the people who disappeared during Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship. Life and career Sierra was born in San Miguel on 1 December 1935. She joined the communist party when she was young and focused on promoting health for the poor. When Augusto Pinochet overthrew the Chilean government in 1973 and assumed power, Sierra and her husband, a fellow communist, stayed in the country. After her husband and a friend disappeared after they were arrested by the police on 15 December 1976, she became the president of a campaign group called Relatives of the Detained-Disappeared. The group campaigned to find out the truth about what happened to hundreds of people who disappeared during Pinochet's reign and bring the people responsible to justice. Relatives Of The Detained-Disappeared
The Association of Families of the Detained-Disappeared (AFDD) ( es, Agrupación de Familiares de Detenidos Desaparecidos), is a Chilean human rights group that formed in Santiago in 1974 in the wake of detentions and disappearances of thousands of people by the military dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet. The main focus of the group was to maintain awareness of the ''desaparecidos'' in the public eye, and to pressure the regime to release information about them. The goals and pressure brought to bear by the Association played an influential role in the establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission after the reestablishment of democracy in Chile and the 1989 election of President Patricio Aylwin.
