Sokolac ( sr-Cyrl, Соколац) is a municipality of the city of Istočno Sarajevo located in Republika Srpska, an entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. As of 2013, it has a population of 12,021 inhabitants, while the town of Sokolac has a population of 5,919 inhabitants. Sokolac Castle
Sokolac Castle ( hr, Gradina Sokolac) is a castle in Brinje, Croatia. It is named after the Croatian word for falcon (''sokol''), which appears on the town's coat of arms. History It dates back to medieval times built under King Ladislaus IV of Hungary, while the town was held by the noble Frankopan and Gorjanski families. The castle was part of an important medieval fortified city held by Frankopan family. Sokolac Castle was an extremely grand building, dominated by the powerful perpendiculars of the entry tower, and the Chapel of the Holy Trinity. The entry into the burg was through a square, three-storey tower, the façades of which were relieved with lesenes linked at the top with blind arcades, making it a unique specimen in the whole of Central Europe. culturenet.hr Gallery |

Banatski Sokolac
Banatski Sokolac () is a village located in the Plandište municipality, in the South Banat District of Serbia. It is situated in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. The village has a Serb ethnic majority (91,80%) and its population numbered 366 at the 2002 census. Sokolac is the site of the annual Rockvillage festival held in the local school yard; for this occasion many former residents pay a visit. A statue of Bob Marley was placed in the village in September 2008. Soko Grad (Sokobanja)
Soko Grad (Serbian Cyrillic: Соко Град), also known as Sokolac, is a medieval city and fortress 2 km east of the spa town of Sokobanja, Serbia. The fortress was declared a Monument of Culture of Great Importance in 1982, and it is protected by Republic of Serbia. History The fortress was founded in the 6th century during the reign of Eastern Roman Emperor Justinian I, to prevent incursions of Pannonian Avars and Slavs into Balkan peninsula. In 1172, it was occupied by Stefan Nemanja and became part of the medieval Serbian state. During the expulsion of the Bogomils from Serbia, Nemanja had a clash with the administrator of Soko, who was a Bogomil himself. Ottoman Empire occupied it in the year 1398. The town was destroyed in a violent Ottoman attack, and today the only thing visible is the remains of the upper town with a gate, walls, and three towers. Soko Grad translates as "falcon city". Sokolović ( sr-cyr, Соколовић, may also be transliterated as Sokolovic or Sokolovich) is a South Slavic surname. It derives from the Slavic word ''sokol'', meaning "falcon" and literally means "son of the falcon". The Sokolović of the Sanjak of Herzegovina were called ''Sokoli'' and '' Sokullu-oğlu'', by the Ottomans. One of the coat of arms included in the Korenić-Neorić Armorial (1595) and the Fojnica Armorial (1675–88) claimed to be that of the "Sokolovich".
