Soini is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the Southern Ostrobothnia region. The municipality has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . Neighbouring municipalities are Alajärvi, Karstula, Kyyjärvi, Saarijärvi and Ähtäri. The municipality is unilingually Finnish. History The name is derived from the male name ''Soini'', a Finnish variant of the Scandinavian name ''Sven''. The village was first mentioned in 1754 as a part of the Alajärvi parish. Soini gained a chapel in 1784 and a church in 1859. It was fully separated from Alajärvi in 1895. Soini originally had a Swedish name, ''Konungsåby'', which referred to the river Kuninkaanjoki. Regions Of Finland
Finland is divided into 19 regions ( fi, maakunta; sv, landskap)., smn, eennâmkodde, and sms, mäddkåʹdd. Ähtäri
Ähtäri ( sv, Etseri) is a town and municipality of Finland. It is located in the South Ostrobothnia region. The town has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . Ähtäri is located southeast of Seinäjoki. The municipality is unilingual Finnish. Ähtäri is known for its zoo and hotel Mesikämmen designed by Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen which is partly built within bedrock. The biggest lake in the area is Ähtärinjärvi. Central Finland
Central Finland ( fi, Keski-Suomi; sv, Mellersta Finland) is a region ( / ) in Finland. It borders the regions of Päijät-Häme, Pirkanmaa, South Ostrobothnia, Central Ostrobothnia, North Ostrobothnia, North Savo, and South Savo. The city of Jyväskylä is the regional centre and by far the largest city in the area. The largest lake in the very water-based region is Lake Päijänne (1,080 km2). Eino Uusitalo
Eino Oskari Uusitalo (1 December 1924 – 19 March 2015) was a Finnish politician from the Centre Party. Uusitalo was born in Soini, and trained as an agronomist. He was a member of the parliament from 1955 to 1983 from the list of Centre Party. He was Minister of the Interior in the Ahti Karjalainen cabinet in 1971 and the Miettunen, Sorsa and Koivisto cabinets from 1976–1982. He was also Deputy Prime Minister from 1979 to 1982, and acted as a substitute to Prime Minister Koivisto from Autumn 1981 to February 1982, because President Kekkonen was ill and Koivisto was the substitute for Kekkonen. After Koivisto won the presidential election and nominated Kalevi Sorsa as Prime Minister, Uusitalo returned to his position as Minister of the Interior in the cabinet. Aukusti Mäenpää
Onni Aukusti Mäenpää (5 January 1891 - 1933) was a Finnish shoemaker and politician. He was born in Soini, and sided with the Reds during the Finnish Civil War. When the Red side lost the war he fled to Sweden, where he stayed until 1920. He was a member of the Parliament of Finland from June to October 1930, representing the Socialist Electoral Organisation of Workers and Smallholders (STPV). In 1930 he was abducted by activists of the anti-communist Lapua Movement, who forced him to cross the border to the Soviet Union, after which he settled in the Karelian ASSR. Finnish (endonym: or ) is a Uralic language of the Finnic branch, spoken by the majority of the population in Finland and by ethnic Finns outside of Finland.
