Sognefjord Span
The Sognefjord Spans are the second, third, and fourth longest span (architecture), spans in the world situated east of Leikanger, Hermansverk, Norway and are part of different powerlines. As Sognefjord Span is a deep valley the pylons of these spans are not taller than ordinary pylons. In order to avoid any too close approaches or contacts between the conductors, each is mounted on a separate pylon at the end of the span, which is built as a truss, steel framework tower. Span 1 This span is part of the powerline between Hermansverk and Vikøyri and was built in the 1950s. Span (architecture)
Span is the distance between two intermediate supports for a structure, e.g. a beam (structure), beam or a bridge. A span can be closed by a solid beam or by a rope. The first kind is used for bridges, the second one for power lines, overhead telecommunication lines, some type of Antenna (radio), antennas or for aerial tramways. Leikanger
Leikanger () is a former municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. It was located on the northern shore of the Sognefjorden in the traditional district of Sogn. The administrative center was the village of Hermansverk, which also was the administrative center of the old Sogn og Fjordane county. The Leikanger/Hermansverk urban area had 2,144 inhabitants (2019), about 90% of the municipal population. This urban area is often called Systrond, which is why a person from Leikanger is often called ''Systrending''. The municipality is the 342nd largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway. Truss
A truss is an assembly of ''members'' such as beams, connected by ''nodes'', that creates a rigid structure. Ameralik Span
The Ameralik Span is the longest span of an electrical overhead power line in the world. It is situated near Nuuk on Greenland and crosses Ameralik Fjord with a span width of at . It was built in 1993 by the Norwegian company NTE Entreprise (Nord-Trøndelag Elektrisitetsverk) and is part of a single-circuit 132 kV powerline running from Buksefjord hydroelectric power plant to Nuuk. The span consists of four steel conductors of 40 millimeters diameter whereby one is a spare conductor. The span has a width of 190 metres and a minimum clearance of 128 metres.
