Society For Research Synthesis Methodology
The Society for Research Synthesis Methodology (abbreviated SRSM) is an international, interdisciplinary learned society dedicated to promoting and fostering the study of research synthesis: the process whereby the results of multiple scientific studies are combined. It was founded in November 2005, with its organizational meeting held on November 11 and 12 of that year. It has 85 active members. Its official journal is '' Research Synthesis Methods'', which has been published by John Wiley & Sons since 2010. It holds annual meetings every summer for members (and, occasionally, nonmembers) to present their research. Its current president is Tianjing Li, and its president-elect is Terri Pigott. Learned Society
A learned society (; also learned academy, scholarly society, or academic association) is an organization that exists to promote an discipline (academia), academic discipline, profession, or a group of related disciplines such as the arts and science. Membership may be open to all, may require possession of some qualification, or may be an honour conferred by election. Most learned societies are non-profit organizations, and many are professional associations. William Shadish
William Raymond Shadish Jr. (November 3, 1949 – March 27, 2016) was an American psychologist and statistician who was a distinguished professor and founding faculty member at the University of California, Merced. He was known for his work in the field of behavioral science, especially on the topics of program evaluation, causal inference, meta-analysis, and the study of methodology. Early life and education Shadish was born on November 3, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York, to William Shadish Sr. and Maryjane Cartmell. Shadish Jr.'s father was a Korean War veteran who spent 30 months as a prisoner of war in North Korea. Research Methods
Research is "creativity, creative and systematic work undertaken to increase the stock of knowledge". It involves the collection, organization and analysis of evidence to increase understanding of a topic, characterized by a particular attentiveness to controlling sources of bias and error. These activities are characterized by accounting and controlling for biases. A research project may be an expansion on past work in the field. Julian Higgins
Julian P. T. Higgins is a British biostatistician, Professor of Evidence Synthesis and Director of Research at the Department of Population Health Sciences at the University of Bristol. Higgins was previously Chair in Evidence Synthesis at the University of York, and Programme Leader at the MRC Biostatistics Unit in Cambridge. He is also a founding trustee and a Past-President of the Society for Research Synthesis Methodology. Betsy Jane Becker is an American researcher on meta-analysis and educational psychometrics. She is the Mode L. Stone Distinguished Professor of Educational Statistics in the Department of Statistics at Florida State University, and previously served as the Chair of the Department of Educational Psychology and Learning Systems at Florida State. Becker is a co-author of a heavily cited consensus report on standards for meta-analysis in epidemiology. John P. A. Ioannidis (; el, Ιωάννης Ιωαννίδης, ; born August 21, 1965) is a Greek-American physician-scientist, writer and Stanford University professor who has made contributions to evidence-based medicine, epidemiology, and clinical research. Jessica Gurevitch
Jessica Gurevitch is plant ecologist known for meta-analysis in the fields of ecology and evolution. Education and career Gurevitch has a B.S. from Cornell University (1973) and earned her Ph.D. in ecology and evolutionary biology from the University of Arizona in 1982.
