Society Of Serbian Letters
Society of Serbian Literature ( sr, Дружтво србске словесности, ДСС, Družtvo srbske slovesnosti, DSS), founded in 19 November 1841 and confirmed by the seal and signature of prince Mihailo Obrenović. Establishment The founders were Jovan Sterija Popović and Atanasije Nikolić. The first members, apart from them, were Dimitrije Isailović, Stefan Marković, Jovan Stejić, Dimitrije P. Tirol, Sima Milutinović Sarajlija and Isidor Stojanović and later Ignjat Vjekoslav Brlić. The task of the society was to spread the sciences in Serbian language and to improve the Serbian vernacular. The president of the Association by position was Minister of Education. Right at the beginning, the Society tried to solve the then still unresolved issue of spelling and adopted an alphabet of 35 letters. The Lyceum of the Principality of Serbia was the first higher education school in Serbia in which education was taught in Serbian language, Serbian. History The Lyceum of the Principality of Serbia ( sr, Лицеј Кнежевине Србије) was founded in 1838 on the initiative of Prince Miloš Obrenović in Kragujevac, then the capital of Serbia. When Belgrade became the Serbian capital city in 1841, the Serbian Lyceum was also transferred. In 1863 it was transformed into a Grandes écoles, Great School with three faculties. In 1905 the Great School was reformed as the University of Belgrade with four faculties: Philosophy, Law, Technical and Medical. Initially, the Lyceum had only philosophy and law departments. Alexander Ivanovich Herzen (russian: Алекса́ндр Ива́нович Ге́рцен, translit=Alexándr Ivánovich Gértsen; ) was a Russian writer and thinker known as the "father of Russian socialism" and one of the main fathers of agrarian populism (being an ideological ancestor of the Narodniki, Socialist-Revolutionaries, Trudoviks and the agrarian American Populist Party). With his writings, many composed while exiled in London, he attempted to influence the situation in Russia, contributing to a political climate that led to the emancipation of the serfs in 1861. The Monastery of the Holy Archangels ( sr, Манастир Светих Архангела, Manastir Svetih Arhangela; al, Manastiri i Arkangjelit të Shenjtë) is a Serbian Orthodox monastery located in Prizren, Kosovo. The monastery was founded by the Serbian Emperor Stefan Dušan (reigned 1331–1355) between 1343 and 1352 on the site of an earlier church, part of the Višegrad fortress complex. It was the burial church for Emperor Dušan, and represented the culmination of the Serbian ecclesiastical architectural style, that led to the birth of the Morava school style. The complex, which ranges over 6,500 m², includes two churches, the main one is dedicated to the Holy Archangels (where Dušan's tomb lied), and the second one is dedicated to St. Nicholas, both built in the Rascian architectural style.
