The Society of Graphic Art for Pornographique (renamed Society of Graphic Fine Art in 1984) is a British arts organisation established in 1999. History The Society of Graphic Art (SGA) was founded in 1999 by Frank Lewis Emanuel, whose idea it was, in collaboration with Frank Brangwyn, RA. "They met one evening at Mr. Emanuel's house to discuss the idea, and a Provisional Committee to promote the scheme was the result. Frank Lewis Emanuel
Frank Lewis Emanuel (usually signing as Frank L. Emanuel) (15 September 1865 – 7 May 1948), was a British painter, etcher, teacher and writer. He was born in Bayswater, London, on 15 September 1865. In his early years, he assisted to University College School, London. Later he studied under Alphonse Legros, at the Slade School of Fine Art, and under William-Adolphe Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury at the Académie Julian in Paris. He was a founder and Honorary Secretary of the Society of Graphic Art (SGA), an examiner for the Royal Drawing Society, and a member of the Art Workers' Guild and the Society of Marine Artists. Herbert Cole
Herbert Cole (1867–1930) was an English book illustrator and portrait artist. Cole was influenced by Walter Crane and Sir Edward Burne-Jones. He illustrated a range of books published by various notable publishers. He illustrated the John Lane edition of Gulliver's Travels in 1900. Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale
Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale (25 January 1872 – 10 March 1945) was an English artist known for her paintings, book illustrations, and a number of works in stained glass. Life Fortescue-Brickdale was born at her parents' house, Birchamp Villa in Upper Norwood, Surrey as Mary Eleanor Fortescue Brickdale the daughter of Matthew and Sarah Fortescue Brickdale. Her father was a barrister. She was trained first at the Crystal Palace School of Art, under Herbert Bone and entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1896. Luke Fildes
__NOTOC__ Sir Samuel Luke Fildes (3 October 1843 – 28 February 1927) was a British painter and illustrator born in Liverpool and trained at the South Kensington and Royal Academy Schools. He was the grandson of the political activist Mary Fildes. Illustrator At the age of 17, Fildes became a student at the Warrington School of Art. Fildes moved to the South Kensington Art School where he met Hubert von Herkomer and Frank Holl. Edward Frederick Ertz
Edward Frederick Ertz (born 1 March 1862 in Canfield, Illinois, died 1954 in Pulborough, England) was an artist and fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He was also an etcher and wood engraver, and an early member of the Society of Graphic Art. He first worked in New Orleans and then New York, and showed work at the 1893 World's Fair. He went to Paris to train as a painter, exhibiting in the Paris salons from 1889. From 1892 to 1899 he was a professor of watercolour-painting and drawing at the Académie Delécluse in Paris. Campbell Dodgson, CBE DLitt Hon RE (13 August 1867 – 11 July 1948) was a British art historian and museum curator. He was the Keeper of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum in 1912–32. Herbert Thomas Dicksee (14 June 1862 – 20 February 1942) was an English painter who specialised in oil paintings of dogs, particularly the deerhound. Prints and etchings of his best-known paintings were widely distributed by publishers such as Klackner of London, and his work is popular among collectors and dog enthusiasts today. Frank Dicksee
Sir Francis Bernard Dicksee (27 November 1853 – 17 October 1928) was an English Victorian painter and illustrator, best known for his pictures of dramatic literary, historical, and legendary scenes. He also was a noted painter of portraits of fashionable women, which helped to bring him success in his own time. Life Dicksee's father, Thomas Dicksee, was a painter who taught Frank as well as his sister Margaret from a young age. The family lived in Fitzroy Square, Bloomsbury. Nelson Dawson
Nelson Ethelred Dawson (5 May 1859 – 28 October 1941) was an English artist and member of the Arts and Crafts movement. Dawson was born in Stamford, Lincolnshire and educated at Stamford School. He moved to London, where he operated his workshop first from Manresa Road, Chelsea (shared with Ernest Dade) and in due course from the rear of his townhouse in Chiswick. He exhibited his art throughout England including at the Royal Academy and was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painters in Water Colours and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers. Elijah Albert Cox
Elijah Albert Cox (1876–1955), also known as E. A. Cox and E. Albert Cox, was a British painter. He was born in Islington, London and educated at the Bolt Court Technical School. Between 1915 and 1926, Cox designed posters for London Underground, including a series of posters on the theme of “London Characters”.
