Society For Libertarian Life
Society for Libertarian Life (SLL) was one of the early libertarianism, libertarian student organizations that eventually charted chapters and had a nationwide presence in the United States. Founded in 1973 at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF), SLL was considered one of the largest and most active libertarian organizations along the West Coast.LeFeve, Robert, ''Does Government Protection Protect?'' Libertarianism (from french: libertaire, "libertarian"; from la, libertas, "freedom") is a political philosophy that upholds liberty as a core value. Libertarians seek to maximize autonomy and political freedom, and minimize the state's encroachment on and violations of individual liberties; emphasizing the rule of law, pluralism, cosmopolitanism, cooperation, civil and political rights, bodily autonomy, free association, free trade, freedom of expression, freedom of choice, freedom of movement, individualism and voluntary association. The Libertarian Party (LP) is a Political parties in the United States, political party in the United States that promotes civil liberties, non-interventionism, ''laissez-faire'' capitalism, and Limited government, limiting the size and scope of government. The party was conceived in August 1971 at meetings in the home of David Nolan (libertarian), David F. Briggs Initiative
California Proposition 6, informally known as the Briggs Initiative, was a ballot initiative put to a referendum on the California state ballot in the November 7, 1978 election. It was sponsored by John Briggs, a conservative state legislator from Orange County. The failed initiative sought to ban gays and lesbians from working in California's public schools. Openly gay San Francisco politician Harvey Milk and Sally Miller Gearhart, as well as many other LGBT activists of the time were instrumental in fighting the measure. Opposition to the proposition from a variety of public figures such as then former California Governor Ronald Reagan to President Jimmy Carter helped to swing public opinion against it. Ed Clark
Edward E. Clark (born May 4, 1930) is an American lawyer and politician who ran for governor of California in 1978, and for president of the United States as the nominee of the Libertarian Party in the 1980 presidential election. Clark is an honors graduate of Tabor Academy, Dartmouth College, and received a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School. Formerly a liberal Republican, he joined the Libertarian Party following President Richard Nixon's imposition of wage and price controls in 1971. 1978 California gubernatorial campaign In 1978, Clark received some 377,960 votes, 5.5% of the popular vote, in a race for governor of California. Eric Garris
Eric Garris (born December 24, 1953) is an activist in the libertarian movement in the United States, reaching back to the Vietnam War. He is the founder and webmaster of a daily nonpartisan, news source Antiwar.com which was launched in 1995. Background Garris was born in Paris, France and raised in Southern California from the age of 2. He became politically active at an early age, organizing rallies and distributing leaflets in his Los Angeles high school and actively resisting the Vietnam war and draft. Murray Rothbard
Murray Newton Rothbard (; March 2, 1926 – January 7, 1995) was an American economist of the Austrian School, economic historian, political theorist, and activist. Rothbard was a central figure in the 20th-century American libertarian movement and a founder and leading theoretician of anarcho-capitalism. He wrote over twenty books on political theory, history, economics, and other subjects. Rothbard argued that all services provided by the "monopoly system of the corporate state" could be provided more efficiently by the private sector and wrote that the state is "the organization of robbery systematized and writ large". He called fractional-reserve banking a form of fraud and opposed central banking. He categorically opposed all military, political, and economic interventionism in the affairs of other nations.
