Socialist Youth (Norway)
Socialist Youth (Norwegian: ''Sosialistisk Ungdom'') is the youth league of the Socialist Left Party of Norway. The current head of the organisation is Synnøve Kronen Snyen. SU considers itself a revolutionary party consisting of Marxists and wants to gain popular support for socialism in Norway. In this respect it differs from SV, the mother party. SU organises some 850 members between the age of 13 and 30. They have regional branches in all 19 counties, and have around 60 local groups. At several universities and colleges SU also organises student groups. SU does well in school elections in urban areas, but has less support in rural regions and in the north of Norway. They are particularly occupied with school students' rights and prospose that all students be given educational material free of charge. Kristin Halvorsen
Kristin Halvorsen (born 2 September 1960) is a Norwegian politician of the Socialist Left Party. She served as Minister of Finance from 2005 to 2009 and as Minister of Education from 2009 to 2013. She also served as the party's leader from 1997 to 2012 and a member of parliament representing Oslo, from 1989 to 2013. Taking over as leader of the Socialist Left Party in 1997, she established an unprecedented level of consensus within the party. At the 2005 election, the party received a disappointing 8.8% share of the vote, and in 2009 down further, to 6.2%. She stepped down as leader in 2012, and was succeeded by Audun Lysbakken on 11 March. The Socialist Left, in coalition with the Labour Party and the Centre Party, won Norway's September 2005 parliamentary elections. Opposition To The Iraq War
Significant opposition to the Iraq War occurred worldwide, both before and during the initial 2003 invasion of Iraq by a United States-led coalition, and throughout the subsequent occupation. People and groups opposing the war include the governments of many nations which did not take part in the invasion, and significant sections of the populace in those that did. Rationales for opposition include the belief that the war is illegal according to the United Nations Charter, or would contribute to instability both within Iraq and the wider Middle East. Andreas Sjalg Unneland (born 30 June 1994) is a Norwegian politician. He is member of the Storting from 2021, representing the Socialist Left Party, elected from the constituency of Oslo. Heikki Eidsvoll Holmås (born 28 June 1972 in Voss) is a Norwegian politician for the Socialist Left Party (SV).
