Social Christian Unity Party Presidential Primary, 2013
The 2013 presidential primary of the Social Christian Unity Party of Costa Rica was held on May 9, 2013 as part of the 2014 Costa Rican general election. The two main traditional factions of PUSC ( Calderonistas and Liberals) competed for the nomination. The competing parties were Costa Rica's Children's Hospital Dr. Rodolfo Hernández, and the lawyer, businessman, and former president of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund Rodolfo Piza. This was PUSC's fifth primary election in its history and the first in twelve years. President Of Costa Rica
The president of the Republic of Costa Rica is the head of state and head of government of Costa Rica. The president is currently elected in direct elections for a period of four years, which is not immediately renewable. Citizens' Action Party Presidential Primary, 2013
PAC’s second presidential primary (known as Citizens' National Convention or ''Convención Nacional Ciudadana'') was held on July 21, 2013 in order to elect the party’s presidential nominee for the 2014 Costa Rican general election. Unlike the previous election, this was an open primary and every citizen was able to vote as far as pledge written membership to the party before casting the vote. Three-time candidate and party’s founder Ottón Solís declined run for president for the fourth time opening the opportunity for new leaderships and the presidential nomination in one of Costa Rica’s major parties. Abel Pacheco de la Espriella ( ; born 22 December 1933 in San José) is a Costa Rican politician who was president of Costa Rica between 2002 and 2006, representing the Social Christian Unity Party ''(Partido Unidad Social Cristiana'' – PUSC). He ran on a platform to continue free market reforms and to institute an austerity program, and was elected, in a second electoral round, with 58% of the vote in April 2002. Rafael Ángel Calderón Guardia
Rafael Ángel Calderón Guardia (March 8, 1900 – June 9, 1970) was a Costa Rican medical doctor and politician, who served as President from 1940 to 1944. Early life Rafael Angel Calderón Guardia was born on 8 March 1900 in San José. In his youth, Calderón Guardia studied in Costa Rica, France and Belgium, where he married Yvonne Clays Spoelders, who was later to be the first female diplomat of Costa Rica. After finishing his studies in Belgium, Calderón Guardia became a medical doctor and practicing surgeon, which he would remain for most of his life, even after serving as president. Rafael Ángel Calderón Fournier (born 14 March 1949) was President of Costa Rica from 1990 to 1994. He was the presidential candidate of the Social Christian Unity Party for the national elections held in February 2010, but resigned his candidacy on 5 October 2009, when he was sentenced to five years in prison for two counts of corruption. The Costa Rican Social Security Fund ( es, Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social) is in charge of most of the nation's public health sector. Its role in public health (as the administrator of health institutions) is key in Costa Rica, playing an important part in the state's national health policy making. Its services are available to all citizens and permanent legal residents. This governmental entity's functions encompass both the administrative and functional aspects.
