Soccer In New York City
The sport of soccer has a long history in New York City, beginning in the 1910s with the first iteration of the American Soccer League. In the 1970s, with the rise of the first iteration of the North American Soccer League, the New York Cosmos became one of the most recognizable brands in American soccer. Presently, there are five professional soccer clubs in the New York City region. New York City FC and the New York Red Bulls play in the top division, Major League Soccer. New York Red Bulls II, the reserve team for the Red Bulls, compete in the USL Championship, and New Amsterdam FC play in the National Independent Soccer Association, the second and third tier respectively. NJ/NY Gotham FC, a women's team, competes in the National Women's Soccer League. Queensboro FC
Queensboro FC is an upcoming American professional soccer team based in the borough of Queens in New York City. It was funded and founded on November of 2019. Queensboro FC will make its debut as an expansion team in the USL Championship. Josep Gombau was named the team's first head coach and sporting director on July 6, 2020. Their start date was also moved from the 2021 season to the 2022 season, and later the 2023 season. On October 6, 2020, QBFC unveiled their official crest and color scheme. On June 8, 2022, head coach and sporting director Josep Gombau left to coach Odisha FC of the Indian Super League. Queensboro FC was not listed as participating in the 2023 USL Championship season. Red Bull Arena is a soccer-specific stadium in Harrison, New Jersey that is home to the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer and NJ/NY Gotham FC of the National Women's Soccer League. Ebbets Field
Ebbets Field was a Major League Baseball stadium in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York. It is mainly known for having been the home of the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team of the National League (1913–1957). The Polo Grounds was the name of three stadiums in Upper Manhattan, New York City, used mainly for professional baseball and American football from 1880 through 1963. Dexter Park (Queens)
Dexter Park was a public park located in the neighborhood of Woodhaven, Queens, New York City, just north of Eldert Lane and Jamaica Avenue, not far from the borough line with Brooklyn. It had a long early history starting in the 19th century as a recreational park, which replaced a racetrack. Horse Racing In the 19th century, Queens lacked the stricter building rules of Brooklyn. Hotels sprung up and Woodhaven became the site of two racetracks: the Union Course (1821) and the Centerville (1825). Downing Stadium, previously known as Triborough Stadium and Randall's Island Stadium, was a 22,000-seat stadium in New York City. It was renamed Downing Stadium in 1955 after John J.
