''Sobrightttttttt'' is the debut studio album of South Korean singer-songwriter Sogumm. It was released on October 21, 2019, through Balming Tiger. It was later nominated for Best R&B Album at the Korean Music Awards. Background In an interview with Hypebeast Korea, Sogumm shared the story behind the album title. My real name is So-hee. Its Chinese characters mean white and bright. I always say "so bright" to describe myself, so I thought that it was perfect for the title of my first album. Music and lyrics Wnjn actively uses a synthesizer with damp texture on top of electronic and ambient sounds and creates a unique mood by throwing in unusual sources. Meanwhile, Sogumm's vocal sounds as if she is whispering next to you in her characteristic mumbling tone creating a "wavy" groove. Sogumm
Kwon So-hee (; born March 8, 1994), known professionally as Sogumm (; stylized in all lowercase), is a South Korean singer-songwriter. In 2019, she released albums ''Not My Fault'' and ''Sobrightttttttt'', which were met with critical acclaim. She won ''Signhere'' and signed to AOMG in the same year. She won Rookie of the Year at the Korean Music Awards in 2020 and released her second studio album ''Precious'' in 2021. Early life Kwon So-hee was born on March 8, 1994 in Daejeon. As she lived in China when she was in the fifth grade, she listened to songs by foreign artists. She became interested in music after discovering Michael Jackson. Balming Tiger is a South Korean musical collective founded in 2018 in Seoul. The group consists of director San Yawn, rapper Omega Sapien, DJ Abyss, music video directors Jan'Qui and Leesuho, singer-songwriters Sogumm, Wnjn, and Mudd the Student, and editor Henson. ''Not My Fault'' is a collaborative studio album by South Korean music producer Dress and singer-songwriter Sogumm. It was released on September 27, 2019 through Highline Entertainment. It was later nominated for Best R&B Album at the Korean Music Awards and peaked at number 65 on the Gaon Album Chart. Background In an interview with Genie Music, Sogumm explained how the album was made. Dress also made commercial music but wanted to express his feelings through beats without thinking too much. I worked with him because he requested a collaboration first, but I wrote songs quickly and he kept sending me beats. So we were planning to release one or two songs at first but made so many songs in an instant.
