Soar Welsh Independent Chapel was an Independent ( Congregationalist) chapel in Marsh Street, Llanelli Llanelli ("St Elli's Parish"; ) is a market town and the largest community in Carmarthenshire and the preserved county of Dyfed, Wales. It is located on the Loughor estuary north-west of Swansea and south-east of the county town, Carmarthen. ..., Carmarthenshire, Wales. Services at Soar were conducted in the Welsh language. The chapel was established in the 1880s after a split at the neighbouring Ebenezer, Llanelli, Ebenezer church. Ebenezer's minister, Trefor Davies, together with a large proportion of the members, left to form Soar after a dispute that was reported upon but not explained fully in the local press. Trefor Davies remained minister at Soar until his death in 1933. E. D. Morgan became minister in 1961 and remained at Soar for thirty years. The Union of Welsh Independents ( cy, Undeb yr Annibynwyr Cymraeg) is a Reformed congregationalist denomination in Wales. History Welsh congregational churches or Independents stand in the Puritan tradition. The first congregational congregation was founded at Llanfaches in 1639. Early founders were in the puritan tradition. Later several churches were founded and formed separate denominations. They embraced different theological positions. Finally the denomination was founded in 1872 as a voluntary association of churches. They called it Independent because each congregation claims to be under the authority of Christ. Llanelli
Llanelli ("St Elli's Parish"; ) is a market town and the largest community in Carmarthenshire and the preserved county of Dyfed, Wales. It is located on the Loughor estuary north-west of Swansea and south-east of the county town, Carmarthen. The town had a population of 25,168 in 2011, estimated in 2019 at 26,225. The local authority was Llanelli Borough Council when the county of Dyfed existed, but it has been under Carmarthenshire County Council since 1996. Name Spelling The anglicised spelling “Llanelly” was used until 1966, when it was changed to Llanelli after a local public campaign. It remains in the name of a local historic building, Llanelly House. It should not be confused with the village and parish of Llanelly, in south-east Wales near Abergavenny. Ebenezer, Llanelli
Ebenezer was an Independent ( Congregationalist) chapel in Inkerman Street, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales. Services at Ebenezer were conducted in the Welsh language. The chapel was established in the 1880s after a number of members were expelled from the neighbouring Tabernacle According to the Hebrew Bible, the tabernacle ( he, מִשְׁכַּן, mīškān, residence, dwelling place), also known as the Tent of the Congregation ( he, link=no, אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד, ’ōhel mō‘ēḏ, also Tent of Meeting, etc.), ... church. The building was designed by the prolific chase builder, Thomas Thomas of Landore, at a cost of around £2,000. It could accommodate 800 people. T. Orchwy Bowen became minister in 1909 and remained until 1921. In 1917 he rejected a call to minister at Trefgarne Church in Pembrokeshire.
