So-Lo
''So-Lo'' is the debut studio album by American musician Danny Elfman, released in 1984 by MCA Records. Recorded primarily by Elfman, but also featuring the members of his band, Oingo Boingo, it was recorded when Elfman was offered a solo contract with MCA after the band had been dropped from I.R.S. Records. The album marked the band's last release to feature bassist Kerry Hatch and keyboardist Richard Gibbs. Background ''So-Lo'' was produced during a hiatus for Oingo Boingo, following the departure of Hatch and Gibbs. Elfman described the album as "a chance to experiment with slower tempos" and added that "it was fun to do some ballads and try to snap out of that image that a lot of people have of me just writing real fast (...) tunes." Oingo Boingo () was an American new wave band formed by songwriter Danny Elfman in 1979. The band emerged from a surrealist musical theatre troupe, The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, that Elfman had led and written material for in the years previous. Their highest charting song, " Weird Science", reached No. 45 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Oingo Boingo were known for their high energy live concerts and experimental music, which can be described as mixing rock, ska, pop, and world music. ''Big Mess'' is the second solo studio album by American singer, musician, and composer Danny Elfman. It was released by Anti- and Epitaph Records on June 11, 2021. The album is Elfman's first studio album outside of his film and classical compositions since the 1994 album '' Boingo'' with his former band Oingo Boingo, and his first solo pop release since the 1984 album ''So-Lo''. Although ''Big Mess'' features former members of Oingo Boingo, such as Steve Bartek, Warren Fitzgerald, and Marc Mann, it is not an Oingo Boingo collaboration in the vein of ''So-Lo''. Elfman had initially written two songs, "Sorry" and " Happy"—his first non-commissioned songs since Oingo Boingo disbanded—that were intended to debut at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2020. Daniel Robert Elfman (born May 29, 1953) is an American film composer, singer and songwriter. He came to prominence as the singer-songwriter for the new wave band Oingo Boingo in the early 1980s. Since the 1990s, Elfman has garnered international recognition for composing over 100 feature film scores, as well as compositions for television, stage productions, and the concert hall. Wells novel '' The Island of Dr. Moreau'', specifically Erle C. Kenton's 1932 film adaptation of this novel, titled '' Island of Lost Souls''. In this story, the mad scientist Dr. Moreau performed operations on wild beasts in order to make them more human and able to undertake menial tasks. When the beasts acted in an inappropriate manner, Dr. Moreau would crack his whip and challenge the beasts. ''Boingo Alive'' is a double album by American new wave band Oingo Boingo, released in 1988. It was performed and recorded live in a rehearsal studio with no audience, with the band performing songs from previous albums and two previously unreleased songs to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the band's beginning. Background According to the ''Los Angeles Times'', as well as the album's sleeve sticker and promotional material, ''Boingo Alive'' was recorded live on a soundstage over nine nights in July 1988. The sticker and ads also read, "Hear our greatest hits the way they were meant to be heard—live". After Oingo Boingo migrated from A&M Records/ I.R.S. Records to MCA Records in 1984, A&M had retained ownership of the band's previous recordings, but by 1988 the band became legally able to re-record their old material. ''Dead Man's Party'' is the fifth album by American new wave band Oingo Boingo, released in 1985. The album contains the only two singles by the band to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100: "Weird Science (song), Weird Science" at number 45, and "Just Another Day" at number 85. The album cover art is an homage to the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead, Día de Los Muertos.
