Snowy (TV Series)
''Snowy'' is an Australian television drama thriller series that screened on the Nine Network in 1993 and was produced by Simpson Le Mesurier Films. The program was not renewed for a second season. Synopsis ''Snowy'' was set around the project to build the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme in 1949. The Logan family run a small hotel in the remote and peaceful township of Cooma. The building of the Snowy project turns the Snowy Mountains region into a wild new frontier with the surge of hopeful immigrants, shady hustlers and colourful characters. Rebecca Gibney
Rebecca Catherine Gibney (born 14 December 1964) is a New Zealand actress known for her roles on Australian television in ''The Flying Doctors'', ''Halifax f.p.'', ''Packed to the Rafters'', ''Winter (TV series), Winter'' and ''Wanted (2016 Australian TV series), Wanted''. She is a Gold Logie winner and has featured in a number of Australian films including ''Mental (2012 film), Mental'' and ''The Dressmaker (2015 film), The Dressmaker''. Biography Gibney is the youngest of six children; born in Levin, New Zealand and brought up in Wellington, where she attended Wellington Girls' College. The Nine Network (stylised 9Network, commonly known as Channel Nine or simply Nine) is an Australian commercial free-to-air television network. Cooma, New South Wales
Cooma is a town in the south of New South Wales, Australia. It is located south of the national capital, Canberra, via the Monaro Highway. It is also on the Snowy Mountains Highway, connecting Bega with the Riverina. At the , Cooma had a population of 6,742. Cooma is the main town of the Monaro region. It is above sea level. The name could have derived from an Aboriginal word ''Coombah'', meaning 'big lake' or 'open country'. Cooma is south of the banks of the Murrumbidgee River, a main tributary of the Murray–Darling basin. Cooma sources its water from the river. History The area now known as Cooma lies on the traditional lands of the Ngarigo people. Cooma was explored by Captain J. M. Currie in 1823. It was first surveyed in 1840, and was gazetted in 1849. Snowy Mountains Scheme
The Snowy Mountains Scheme or Snowy scheme is a hydroelectricity and irrigation complex in south-east Australia. The Scheme consists of sixteen major dams; nine power stations; two pumping stations; and of tunnels, pipelines and aqueducts that were constructed between 1949 and 1974. The Scheme was completed under the supervision of Chief Engineer, Sir William Hudson. It is the largest engineering project undertaken in Australia. The water of the Snowy River and some of its tributaries, much of which formerly flowed southeast onto the river flats of East Gippsland, and into Bass Strait of the Tasman sea, is captured at high elevations and diverted inland to the Murray and Murrumbidgee Rivers irrigation areas. Snowy Mountains
The Snowy Mountains, known informally as "The Snowies", is an IBRA subregion in southern New South Wales, Australia, and is the tallest mountain range in mainland Australia, being part of the continent's Great Dividing Range cordillera system. It makes up the northeastern half of the Australian Alps (the other half being the Victorian Alps) and contains Australia's five tallest peaks, all of which are above , including the tallest Mount Kosciuszko, which reaches to a height of above sea level. The offshore Tasmanian highlands makes up the only other major alpine region present in the whole of Australia. Neil Melville
Neil Melville is an Australian actor. He was born in Sydney, but spent most of his childhood in Apollo Bay, Victoria. In the early 1970s he was lead singer of Geelong rock band "The Iliad". Melville graduated from Adelaide's Flinders University with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama, and performed in a number of university productions, including, most notably, the world premiere of Jack Hibberd's ''The Les Darcy Show'' (1974). After graduating from university, Melville spent a year writing and performing for children with the Little Patch Theatre. While with this group, he wrote the vaudeville-documentary, ''Australian Born, Australian Bred''. He has worked extensively as a character actor, appearing in numerous Australian theatre, film and television productions. Melville has served as actor and director-in-residence at the University of Melbourne and worked as Executive Producer on ex-wife Debra Byrne's album, ''Heaven Down Here''.
