Snowboarding At The 2018 Winter Olympics
Snowboarding at the 2018 Winter Olympics was held at the Bokwang Phoenix Park in Pyeongchang, South Korea. A total of ten snowboarding events were scheduled to take place between 10 and 24 February 2018. The parallel slalom event, which made its debut four years earlier at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, was dropped from the games in 2018 in favour of a new big air event. Qualification A total of 258 quota spots were available to athletes to compete at the games (142 men and 116 women). Each National Olympic Committee was permitted to enter a maximum of 26 athletes, with a maximum of 14 men or 14 women. Each event had its own maximum number of quota spots, however slopestyle and big air were calculated jointly per nation. Snowboarding is a recreational and competitive activity that involves descending a snow-covered surface while standing on a snowboard that is almost always attached to a rider's feet. It features in the Winter Olympic Games and Winter Paralympic Games. Snowboarding was developed in the United States, inspired by skateboarding, sledding, surfing, and skiing. The ''Fédération internationale de ski et de snowboard'' (FIS; en, International Ski and Snowboard Federation) is the highest international governing body for skiing and snowboarding. Kyle Mack
Kyle Alan Mack (born July 6, 1997) is an American snowboarder from West Bloomfield, Michigan, who specializes both Slopestyle and Big Air. On March 4, 2016, he won the US Open Men's Slopestyle final. At the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, he won the silver medal in the Men's Big Air final. Career Mack's career began at the age of three, as he would ride down the driveway after every snowfall. At five, he began regularly riding Alpine Valley; he would never leave regardless of the weather conditions. His dedication caused Burton Snowboards to notice him at the age of seven, resulting in sponsorship. In 2010, he placed first in the Burton Open Junior Jam which skyrocketed him to new heights. Sébastien Toutant
Sébastien Toutant (born November 9, 1992) is a Canadian snowboarder. He is the Olympic gold medallist in men's big air snowboarding at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Toutant was twice the gold medal winner in slopestyle at the X Games in 2011 and 2013. He has also won two silver medals and a bronze in slopestyle and big air events at the X Games, bringing his total medals in the competition to five. Career Starting snowboarding at age nine, Toutant got into the sport when he broke his skis and borrowed his brother's old snowboard. Toutant's skills were noticed when he won his first professional event at just 13 years of age. He was taken by a film crew to Mount Hood shortly after to shoot a video of him on the biggest jumps he had tried at that point. The men's big air competition of the 2018 Winter Olympics was held on 21 and 24 February 2018 at the Alpensia Ski Jumping Stadium in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The event was making its Olympic debut. The women's snowboard cross competition of the 2018 Winter Olympics was held on 16 February 2018 Bogwang Phoenix Park in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The event was won by Michela Moioli. Julia Pereira de Sousa Mabileau became second, and Eva Samková, the defending champion, third. In the finals, Lindsey Jacobellis lead from the start, but was passed first by Moioli, and then by Pereira de Sousa Mabileau. Before the final jump, she was fifth, also behind Samková and Chloé Trespeuch, the 2014 bronze medalist. In this jump, Trespeuch fell and crossed the finish line on her back; this allowed Jacobellis to finish fourth, 0.03 seconds behind Samková. Trespeuch, despite her fall, was fifth, and the last finalist, Aleksandra Zhekova, sixth.
