Snotkop
Francois Henning (born December 22, 1974), better known by his stage name Snotkop (, and previously known as Lekgoa , is a South African people, South African singer and rapper of Afrikaans. He started his music career at age 15 preparing demo CDs, and in the late 1990s adopted the stage name Lekgoa ("white guy" in Sotho) singing in the South African kwaito genre of music. In this period, he was signed to Gallo record label, releasing two albums; ''Basetsana'' in 1999 and ''Ngamla Yoba'' in 2002. In 2005 he adopted the name Snotkop initially as part of a 4-piece boy band, and shortly later a solo act signing with Next Music-record label, and launched his self-titled 2005 debut album ''Snotkop'' followed by ''So Damn Sexy'' in 2008 and ''Francois Henning Was Hier'' in 2009. With the release of ''Ek Laaik Van Jol'' in 2012, he became one of the top selling South African artists in Africa in the Afrikaans language. Kurt Johan van Heerden (born 19 February 1970), better known as Kurt Darren, is a South African singer, songwriter and television presenter, who won seven South African Music Awards (SAMA) from 2007 to 2011. He has also appeared in a number of South African films. His debut was with the album ''For Your Precious Love'' released in 1995. From 2006 to 2011, Darren was the presenter of the popular South African show ''Jukebox'' broadcast on kykNET. During the programme, callers would have the opportunity to request and dedicate music videos of their choice. SMS (text) messages would also roll in during the program. The program was broadcast live on various radio stations as well on Sunday evenings. "Rap das Armas" ( en, "Rap of Weapons") is a 1990s song originally written and performed by Brazilian duo Júnior e Leonardo. It has lyrics in Brazilian Portuguese written on the melody of the 1986 song " Your Love" by the English rock band The Outfield. Brazilian duo Cidinho and Doca, made up of MC Cidinho and MC Doca, recorded and released a cover of the song, making it an international hit both in 2008 and in 2009. The duo are two prominent ''proibidão'' rappers in Brazil, ''proibidão'' referring to songs which are prohibited airplay by order of the Brazilian courts due to alleged crime apology. The song enjoyed a considerable amount of success in the mid-1990s. MK (channel)
MK was a mostly Afrikaans music channel, launched in mid-2005, as MK89, that is part of the DStv bouquet of satellite channels owned by MultiChoice/M-Net, based in South Africa. MK is for ''Musiek Kanaal'' (Music Channel) and 89 was the original channel number on DStv satellite decoders. When the channel number was changed to 324, the channel was renamed to MK. At the end of July 2013 DSTV cancelled the channel and opted to move it to its audio bouquet due to lack of viewers. MK maintained an active online presence on their YouTube Channel, Facebook Page and Website. Even though the channel does not feature exclusively Afrikaans music, it has seen a tremendous boost for the resurging Afrikaans music scene, especially "indie" type of music. South African Music Awards
The South African Music Awards (often simply the SAMAs) are the Recording Industry of South Africa's music industry awards, established in 1995. The ceremony is held annually, usually in late April or May, with the judging process starting in November of the previous year. The nominations are typically announced at the end of March. The winners receive a gold-plated statuette called a SAMA. The show has mostly been held at the Super Bowl in Sun City, with the exception of three years, and broadcast live on national broadcaster, SABC. Lose Control (Waldo's People Song)
Finland participated at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song "Lose Control" written by Waldo, Karima, Ari Lehtonen and Annie Kratz-Gutå. The song was performed by the band Waldo's People.
