Snertingegård
Snertingegård, also known simply as Snertinge, is a manor house and estate located just north of Vordingborg, in southeastern Denmark. It was one of 12 manors established after Vordingborg Cavalry District was dissolved in 1774. The Renaissance Revival architecture, Renaissance Revival style main building and home farm were built for Defence Minister Christian Frederik Hansen (officer), Christian Frederik Hansen in 1857 from designs by Ferdinand Meldahl. Both buildings were listed on the Listed buildings in Vordingborg Municipality, Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1978. History Early history In 1769, it was decided to sell Vordingborg Cavalry District. In 1774, it was therefore into 12 estates and sold in public auction. The auction took place at Vordingvorg Castle on 27 September. Snertingegård was sold to the wealthy merchant Reinhard Iselin from Copenhagen. Vordingborg
Vordingborg () is an old ferry town in Vordingborg Municipality in Denmark with around 18,000 inhabitants. Because of three large estates surrounding the town, a coherent urban development has not been possible, which is the reason why three satellite towns (former villages) have emerged around the town. Within the ring of estates, the town has 12,000 inhabitants, and 17,868 inhabitants when including the three satellite towns of Ørslev, Nyråd, and Stensved, situated 1, 3 and 5 kilometres, respectively, from the town of Vordingborg. Frederiksborg Castle
Frederiksborg Castle ( da, Frederiksborg Slot) is a palatial complex in Hillerød, Denmark. It was built as a royal residence for King Christian IV of Denmark-Norway in the early 17th century, replacing an older castle acquired by Frederick II and becoming the largest Renaissance residence in Scandinavia. On three islets in the ''Slotssøen'' (castle lake), it is adjoined by a large formal garden in the Baroque style. After a serious fire in 1859, the castle was rebuilt on the basis of old plans and paintings. Thanks to public support and the brewer J. C. Jacobsen, its apartments were fully restored and reopened to the public as the Danish Museum of National History in 1882. Aurochs
The aurochs (''Bos primigenius'') ( or ) is an extinct cattle species, considered to be the wild ancestor of modern domestic cattle. With a shoulder height of up to in bulls and in cows, it was one of the largest herbivores in the Holocene; it had massive elongated and broad horns that reached in length. The aurochs was part of the Pleistocene megafauna. It probably evolved in Asia and migrated west and north during warm interglacial periods. The oldest known aurochs fossils found in India and North Africa date to the Middle Pleistocene and in Europe to the Holstein interglacial. As indicated by fossil remains in Northern Europe, it reached Denmark and southern Sweden during the Holocene. The aurochs declined during the late Holocene due to habitat loss and hunting, and became extinct when the last individual died in 1627 in Jaktorów forest in Poland.
