Snekkersten
Snekkersten is a former fishing village and current neighbourhood in the southern part of Helsingør, Denmark. Snekkersten station is an interchange between the Coast Line between Copenhagen (to Copenhagen) and the Lille Nord railway to Hillerød. The distance from Copenhagen City Hall Square is approximately 45 km. Today, most of the inhabitants are commuters, either working in Helsingør or Copenhagen. The town is connected by a train line, Kystbanen, to Helsingør to the north, and Copenhagen and other communities in the south. History The name Snekkersten is first recorded in 1582. The first part of the name comes from '' snekkja'' or snekke, a type of longship. The suffix -sten means "boulder", The name Snekkersten also refers to a specific very large boulder on the beach in the northern part of Snekkersten. Snekkersten Station
Snekkersten station is a railway station serving the district of Snekkersten in the southern outskirts of the city of Helsingør, Denmark. It is located on the Coast Line between Helsingør and Copenhagen and the Little North Line between Helsingør and Hillerød. The train services on the Coast Line are currently operated by the railway company DSB Øresund, whereas the railway company Lokaltog runs frequent local train services between Helsingør station and Hillerød station. History Snekkersten station is not one of the original stations on the North Line which opened in 1864. The tracks were then located a little further to the west. In 1879, a halt was made near Borupgaard, a local farm. Traffic grew significantly when the Coast Line opened in 1897. The station was refurbished by Sigurd Christensen in 1954. Lille Nord
The Little North Line ( da, Lille Nord) is a local railway line which runs between Hillerød and Helsingør in North Zealand north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The most important town along the route is Fredensborg, home to Fredensborg Palace, one of the Danish Royal Family's two main residences. The railway line is standard gauge and single track, and the distance from Hillerød to Helsingør is . The railway opened in 1864 as part of the North Line between Copenhagen and Helsingør by way of Hillerød. The line now constitutes the northernmost section of the original North Line which has not been electrified to form part of Copenhagen's commuter rail network, the S-train. Kystbanen ("The Coast Line") is a regional railway line between Helsingør (Elsinore) and Copenhagen in Denmark. It was opened in 1897, and it is today the busiest railway line in Denmark. Kystbanen, along with an extensive network of railways in Scania, are run by DSB Øresund, part of DSB. Ellen Juliette Collin Price de Plane (21 June 1878, Snekkersten - 4 March 1968, Brøndby Municipality), better known as Ellen Price, was a Danish ballerina and actress, and a model for the statue ''The Little Mermaid'' in Copenhagen. Price was born in a well-known artistic family: her father Andreas Nicolai Carl Price (1839–1909) and her mother Helga Collin (1841–1918) were ballet dancers in Royal Danish Theatre. Her father's cousin, Juliette Price (1831–1906), was a Danish prima ballerina and a number of Price's other relatives were actors and musicians. Peter Cornelius (opera Singer)
Peter Cornelius (4 January 1865 in Asminderød – 30 December 1934 in Snekkersten) was a Danish opera singer. Biography Born in 1865, Cornelius made his professional opera debut at the Royal Danish Theatre in 1892 as baritone in the role of Escamillo in Georges Bizet's '' Carmen''. He was a member of that theatre until his retirement from the stage in 1922. In 1899, he began performing tenor roles while still performing many roles from the baritone repertoire.
